Nasty "metal on metal" squeeking from left rear

I wish I knew... I got the filter at a reasonable price from the dealership.... came home and swapped it out and violla, no more noise.

Its either an amazing coincidence or it was the filter. Either way I cant explain it.

I forgot to mention that during my inspection at Mcgrath, Jeff found the previous owner got a new clutch... and apparently did not fully tighten the Axle Nut. NOT GOOD!!!!

Apparently it was not fully bolted on and had backed off a bunch. He fixed it free of charge but that could have really ruined my day! Im glad Jeff at Mcgrath found it, but I am astonished that another acura dealership could have done it wrong!

Anyway, the noise was still there after that was torqued back on, but went away with a filter... does it make sense? no, is it true, yes.

I kinda feel like the days when I would hit my apple IIgs with a hammer and it would suddenly start working again. No reason, just did. (I wouldnt suggest that tactic with the macbook air though) LOL.

Anyway, I drove her around all day today and she felt, sounded like a new car... and the acceleration was MUCH improved.

this may sound dumb but, anyway you can put the "dirty" filter back on to see if the noise come back? i mean, keep the clean one in the car while u go out for a drive with the dirty one in..then stopped somewhere and swap out the new one, then drive home..

THEN you'll know for SURE it's the filter..but that's what i would do..since it is very weird that a filter would do something like this..

from the look of that filter, is it one of those UNI filter?? cause i have the same one..

I wish I thought of that... I threw away the filter as soon as I removed it. The mechanic at Mcgrath Acura said that the aftermarket filters make a lot of noise and actually drop HP.. also, the oil put on the filter seems to dirty up the engine a bit.. I dont know

There was debris all over the filter, small wooden debris, durt, muck... the only thing that makes sense is that the filter was so dirty it caused the air to whistle. But it didnt just fool me, my s2000 friend and I both thought it was a major issue at first.

Update:

Metal on metal sound is still gone... I seriously cannot believe it was an air filter.. I thought for sure it was a bearing or an engine problem.

HOWEVER:

I got more weird gremlins to report. This is just weird. TCS light and engine light came on at the same time. Then the clutch didnt work. Clutch fluid was low, added some brake fluid as instructed by owners manual and clutch came back and TCS light went out.

What is the connection between the two? The TCS light was on EVERY time for a week, after the fluid the light went out and stayed out.

I keep scratching my head on this one.. I dont get it.

If the clutch fluid was so low that it wouldn't work, you might want to get under the rear and bleed the system as you might have gotten air in there and eventually would find yourself out and about with no clutch again.

FYI: Speedbleaders makes a bleed valve that fits our cars. Makes it a one person piece of cake. If you bleed it, you might as well flush the whole system (same as bleeding but you just keep pumping and adding fluid) and don't let the reservoir empty as you will let air in to the system. Same as brake bleeding.

I will def look them up. Thanks...

Have you ever heard of the TCS being effected by clutch?
