My NSX VS. C5 Corvette

Me and a buddy ran our cars last night. Check it out. Surprising results.

Did you let up at the end? NA2 NSX's are supposed to pull a C5 big time at speeds between 120 and 150mph. His popups were further hurting his aerodynamics also...

Haha nice run, that is kind of surprising. Im assuming that wasnt a z06. O ya and street racing is bad mmmkay

I did not let up at the end....I was on the throttle giving it hell all the way to 145+. He pulls past me every time right after I'd shift into fifth at about 130. We ran multiple times, but the result was always the same...i'd pull pretty good at the beginning, then he'd pass me at around 130.
As far as aerodynamics, my targa was out. :)

The C5 is a very fast car, even the automatic. Our C5 auto pretty much matched our 3.0l basch nsx. I think the top end runs between the auto and manual C5 are almost the same. Still the C5 doesn't feel like a very nice car and tends to get worn out very fast. At 100K miles I think our Vette is about to die. Whereas the NSX seems like it has life up to 200k+ miles.

Check out the Car & Driver article about the 0-150-0 testing in which the C5 and the NSX were tested. I wonder if the AT C5 has better gearing than a MT C5 between 110-150?

Quote from the article: "[the NSX] diced with the Corvette to 130 mph before pulling decisively ahead to reach 150mph two seconds in front of the Vette."

I now know this....I hear the C5 consistenly dogged on this forum. NA2 would beat it, blah blah. This is just not the case. I'm an exceptional driver....my buddy is not.....If that car was manual......it would be MUCH closer....I was jumping as bad as I did because of his auto downshift.

Despite the engine displacement, I now have an earned respect for the speed of a C5 corvette. No mention of the interior, but interiors don't win races, now do they?

I think you may be trying to drive the NSX like a 300ZXTT.

I wonder what effect your targa top being off had?

having your targa off over 100mph is like pulling a parachute. good luck next time.

all in good fun....i don't need luck, I've got an NSX

Not enough to beat the Vette I don't think. We'll try next time.

Like rk mentioned, having your roof off kills your aerodynamics, try it again with your roof on and you'll see vastly improved acceleration at 100+ mph.

I agree as well.

I'm sure you're right to a certain point, but I don't think I'll win with my top in. I'll try back and let you all know for sure.

Also pull one of his spark plug wires, just to be safe.

I think the NSX just loses some steam up in the higher gears..your putting 290hp up against 345 at a stock level and both have some mods.

nice vid. Have youguys run against each other starting from slower speeds?

Yes, coincidentally we have. Our lowest pull was from about 20mph. Surprisingly....the lower we started, the harder I pulled from the start and the longer it would take for him to catch up. On our slower runs, he wouldn't start passing me till 140 or so.....but there is no doubt....he was running past me at the end of em all. I can post those vids as well if you all would like. They look like ass rapings on my part till I get into fifth.....from there its curtains for me.

That really sounds like drag is causing you to not accelerate as much at such high speed. Try again with the top on and let us know :)

Odd. I ran many c5 autos plenty and its even stevens. The only ones I get walked on if not killed by is the z06 and the c6. My setup is 91 5speed I/H/E ais+chip.

Good runs. What gear were you on when you pulled from a 45MPH roll?
Post the other vids

I agree with the others, try with the top on...

On the runs where we started in 30, I was in first gear. Oh btw, guys, I had the traction control on in all our runs. I think it did me some good because I get some good wheelspin going into second.
