My NSX modification thread..

I've done alot of the similar mods, and the weight savings ends up being pretty decent. However, there were certain items that I've completely removed such as stereo, and speakers. Which have yet to be replaced with upgraded/better items to this point.

Ultimately it comes down to what you're willing to do without, if you're truely going for any substantial weight savings. And of course what you're wallet will allow you to do as well.

The biggest gains/losses of weight I noticed were from replacing my OEM seats, and exhaust components. For my seats I swapped to a one peice seat, and exhaust is kinda self explainatory. Test pipes are nice replacement for OE catalysts.

I think your corner marker bulbs looked good before, and after. Both look nice, so I guess it's a personal preference thing.

Thanks for the compliments
Since I drive my NSX often allround the year I definately want to keep all the comfort stuff.
The seats are an option (Recare Pole Position). Do you happen to know how much weight you saved with that mod?

I want to keep the cats, but perhaps change them for some aftermarket cats which flow better and which are lighter too. I still have a set of Taitec headers that could be installed but that will take some time.

Concerning the parking lights, I want to put my Xenon light in again, and the old incandescent lightbulbs look very odd with the white HID-light.

Unfortunately I don't recall what the difference was in weight of my Recaros vs. the OEM seats. I know the OEM seats were fairly heavy, due to the fact they are full electric. Plus the Recaros "one peice" design helps eliminate a reclining mechanism. But the sliders, and side mounts kinda add unwanted weight back to the seat.

I HIGHLY recommend keeping your OEM seats no matter what. Even if you buy an aftermarket seat, you may discover later that seat type is not for you. My seats are great for track oriented driving, but NOT for extended trips. LOL:tongue: I have kept my OEM seats, and plan to get them reupholstered in a nicer leather.

I hear ya on the lighting thing. Some lights just weren't meant to be together.

06-08-2010:
- Removed the OEM air filter.
- Installed the UNI filter.

No real differences in weight, but at last the car is sounding a bit like my previouw NSX used to

Synth is the right person to give you some feedback as he is running a set of recaro PP.

If i recall correctly he did mention they are confortable.

The last month my NSX has been away for some work that I could not do myself.
My old VIS Type-R hood was painted Kaiser silver and the 2002 lower valence for the rear bumper was also painted.

06-09-2010:
- Removed the OEM aluminium hood. Weight is 6.9 Kg /15.2 Lbs.
- Installed the now pained VIS Type-R hood. Weight is also 6.9 Kg /15.2 Lbs.

07.09.2010:
- Removed the 1998+ OEM headers. Total weight including the heat shields is 12.4 kg / 27.3 lbs.
- Installed a set of Taitec headers. Total weight of these is 7.3 kg / 16.1 lbs.

09.09.2010:
- Remove the OEM 1991-2001 lower rear valence. Weight 2.4 kg / 5.3 lbs.
- Mounted the 2002+ lower rear valence. Weight 3.1 kg / 6.8 lbs.

The car sounds fantastic and really agressive when you put your foot down but does not sound too annoying when cruising. It feels faster to, but I haven't had the car on a dyno yet, so I cannot be sure of that.

Total calculated weight of the car with a full tank (50kg of gas) should now be 1371 kg / 3022 lbs.
