Now that I am finally the owner of a NSX again, I am going to use this thread to keep track of my modifications.

The car is a completely stock 1998 European Sebring Silver NSX-T.

Yesterday, I filled the gas-tank up completely and had it weighed. Car had a Alpine CHM-S630 CD-changer in the trunk, but no mounting bracket.
Toolkit is complete and spare tire plus bracket as well.

How much lighter/faster have these first mods made it?:biggrin:

Hi,

man... my bad for not say "Congratulations on your new NSX" before

what are your first impressions on the differences for the other one??

i surely envy your 6-speed gearbox AHAHHA

All the best and enjoy it with health

Nuno

With or without a driver? If with, weight? :)

I always weigh the car with a full gastank but without a driver.

To be more exact. The given weight of 1420 kg included the following:
- Competely stock European NA2 3.2/6-speed 1998 NSX-R, Sebring Silver, targa roof in place and with OEM wheels and with the European front fog lights
- Set of OEM floor mats
- Alphine CHM-S630 CD-player but NO mounting bracket
- Ignition key with the remote alarm unit
- License papers in glove-box
- Full gastank with only 900 meters driven from gasstation to weighing station.

Actually, I had expected the car to be heavier so I am not unhappy with this total weight.

I'm still a little bit surprised at first as my 91 weighs around 1320 kg without a driver, after some but not overly extended weight-savings (no tool-kit, no spare tyre, Odyssey battery, no fogs, no CD player).

08-07-2010:
- Removed the spare wheel: 14.3 kg = 31.5 lbs
- Removed the spare wheel bracket: 0.74 kg = 1.63 lbs
- Removed the OEM Battery and plastic battery box: 14.4kgt = 31.7 lbs
- Put in a Odyssey PC925 battery: 11.4 kg = 25.1 lbs

I was a little surprised with the OEM battery weight. In my previous NSX the OEM battery was a lot heavier than this particular one.
The reason I removed the battery box was than because of the small size of the Odyssey, I could not screw down the battery bracket down far enough to hold the battery.

Why didn't you went with a PC680, it's 6.8 kg (but less Ah).

I tried the PC680 in my previous NSX but it would be drained (probably the alarm) in just a couple of days. After I switched to the PC925 I never had that problem again.
Because of that, I decided to go with the PC925 again in spite of the fact that it is a lot heavier.

This should be in the "builds" forum :)

Had a busy day today
- Removed the OEM suspension front and back: -11.8 kg / 26.0 lbs front and 13.7 kg / 30.2 lbs in the rear. Total weight OEM suspension: 25.5 kg / 56.2 lbs
- Installed my TEIN-RA suspension: 8.6 kg / 19.0 lbs front and 10.0 kg / 22.0 lbs rear. Total weight TEIN-RA suspension: 18.6 kg / 41.0 lbs
- Removed the European front foglights: 1.4 kg / 3.1 lbs
- Removed the OEM front sway bar: 2.0 kg / 4.4 lbs
- Installed the NSX-R front sway bar: 3.2 kg / 7.1 lbs
- Installed the NSX-R lower chassis bar: 0.8 kg / 1.8 lbs

The car feels much better on the road, although, of course, the ride is much stiffer now. This is however how I like it better. It stays planted in corners better and the nose is more stable after going over bumps in the road.

hummm... my weights were different for these 2 parts:

i weighted:
- 2.61Kg (5.75lbs) for the NSX-R Swaybar
- 1.7Kg (3.74lbs )for my OEM Swaybar

i think is not the scale i used as your 0.8Kg NSX-R lower chassi bar is near what i weighted (0.82Kg)

What do you think about this?

Nuno

Hi Nuno,

I should correct my statement.
My sway bar weights are including the end links which are officially not part of the sway bar itself of course. But I took the swaybar of including these links because the bolts are so much easier to get at

As for the scale, I use two different scales. One very accurate one for weights up to 2 kg and a larger one which is only accurate to about 0.1 kg.

Ah getting along nicely i see,

How is your center console & door trims coming along?

Haven't had any time to start on those unfortunately.
Have only little time and I'd rather do these things carefully because with the interior, you will see any little mistake and keep getting annoyed by it even if other people wouldn't even notice it

Indeed since Ricardo head quite some trouble although he head the Acura console.

Do you think you can post the new weight of the car? I'm to lazy to go through and do all the math, but it would be nice to see the updates after all the changes on the new weight as compared to Day 1. MUCH EASIER to follow.

No problem. Total calculated weight of the car is/should be 1388 kg/ 3059 lbs.
But I am nowhere finished yet. The Taitec GTLW still needs to be mounted and that alone should be good for another 20 lbs difference

25-07-2010:
- Removed the OEM exhaust. Turned out that the 1997+ exhaust is even heavier than the 1991-1994 one. Weight is 21.9 kg / 48.3 lbs
- Installed the Taitec GTLW exhaust. Weight is 8.1 kg / 17.9 lbs
- Installed the SoS adapter pipes to make the GTLW fit: Total weight 1.53 kg / 3.37 lbs.

01-08-2010:
- Removed the big OEM airscoop. Was surprised it is so much different and more complex than that from the earlier models. It even has its own air actuated butterfly valve. It weighs 1.3 kg / 2.9 lbs.
- Mounted the Cantrell airscoop, obviously a much simpler design. Weight is 0.8 kg / 1.8 lbs.
- Replaced the interior dome incandescent lightbulb with a LED bulb.
- Replaced the incandescent lightbulbs from the front parking lights with some more modern LED lights.

For those interested, so far the total weight removed from the car is 44.7 kg / 98.6 lbs.
Calculated car weight including a full tank is now 1375 kg or 3032 lbs, which is only 35 kg heavier than my previous NSX coupe.

The look from the old incandescent lightbulbs.

The new look with the LED lights in place.
