I just got my car back from from a 60k service and a timing belt change. I found a guy in Colorado that is Comptech NSX certified to do the service. Apparently he is the guy who tunes all of the supercharged NSX's on racing day for Acura.

Anyway, i have owned the car for 25k miles and it has never felt or sounded like this! Before the service the car felt 'loose' even though i didn't know it at the time. Now the car feels 'tight', more power, better throttle response, awesome sound.

For those of you near the 60k mark, i highly encourage the investment!

The 60,000-mile service is due at 60,000 miles or four years, whichever comes first. While some of the items may deteriorate more as a function of miles than time, there are others - particularly the fluids - that really should be done according to the time interval, even for those not putting 15,000 miles per year on our NSX (which means most of us). Please don't wait to turn the mileage interval for every item on this list.

good point. i just hear about alot of people who like to push the services out. the first acura dealer i talked to told me NOT to change the timing belt! being a 91, the car is approaching 13 years old, i figured even rubber gets tired :)

Yeah I know the feeling, I just had the the tune up done. My '91 runs great too, well worth the week and a half wait!

I decided to chng the water pump, timing belt, plugs, valve lash, new valve cover gaskets, spool valve gaskets, cam end plugs. The belt looked good, but I didn't want to take the chance. Also looks like my water pump was weeping in the timing cover area so the belt had a bit of shine to it.

The new updated pump leaks outside the cover so you don't have to worry about it damaging the belt.

And the whole reason for changing all this stuff, no more drip....drip oil leak in my garage!!

mmmm, same here but coolant. i had the drip diagnosed, a porous block? nothing to do with any of the 60k service or timing belt. eventual fix was to dry the block, fill small porous area with JB weld, dry again. there was a #2 option, replace the small block, a $26,000 part:eek:

what was the cause/solution of your leak?

Who did your service??

We're about to get a bunch of work done (upgrades, probably 60k mile service (at 41k), etc. We'll probably go with Pikes Peak Acura, but was wondering who this was you had work on your car (who and where).

Thanks,
Craig

Pikes Peak Acura. Paul is the man!

I live much closer to Mile High acura, but they have angered me one to many times. from this point on, my car will be serviced at Pikes Peak Acura...

i noticed you are from ft collins, i am refering to the pikes peak acura in colorado springs...

Yah Paul is a good guy - knows what he's doing. Car is my dad's, and he's in the springs (up near monument). Paul installed the CT supercharger for my dad - and it sounds like he's done a lot of those (and the SC has been reliable and fun so far).

Are you aware of the NSXCO list? I have a Yahoo! Groups list for NSXers in Colorado. We went for lunch and a drive this past Saturday - from I-25 & 104th to Estes Park (via Peak to Peak Hwy) and back (via Hwy-36). Pretty fun and 10 NSXs showed up. There'll probably be a few more get-togethers this summer, and maybe another two-day drive through the mountains.

If you want to join go to yahoo groups and add yourself or send an email to [email protected] (it's restricted so I have to authorize it either way).

You can also just email me at [email protected] and I'll add you.

Later,
Craig

Well, I just had my 48,000 kilometre tune up on my 1991!

But I have regularily changed fluids and had my timing belt and water pump done two years ago. Some things you can do based on mileage. Some based on time. But one thing is certain. I have to start driving my NSX more. At this rate, I will be 95 by the time I hit 200,000 kilometres!:D

Anyone that gets their car serviced at Pikes Peak Acura is playing with fire.

Both my parents and myself have had several of our cars serviced there regularly over the past 6 years or so. Aside from charging too much they did a decent job. However last August one of their techs crashed my father's 3000GT when he was out joyriding in it. He then drove it back to the dealership causing further damage, and also didn't report the accident to the police. When we showed up to look at the car the next day the service advisor had the balls to tell my father that some of the damage was pre-existing. In addition they wanted to only replace a few of the broken suspension parts and one wheel, when in fact the entire suspension had to be replaced on 2 corners as well as the wheels on both corners.

The real kicker is that the management of both these places won't even talk to us about the issue. If you've ever met the GM of PPA you'd know why it's such a crappy dealership.

Apparently he is the guy who tunes all of the supercharged NSX's on racing day for Acura.

If your talking about Paul, he doesn't tune any race cars for Acura or any other legitimate racing team (that I'm aware of). The "race" or shall I say rice cars at PPA with all the stickers on them he does work on. Paul is a nice guy and does good work, but it's simply not worth the risk of taking your car to PPA.

One more thing, when we filed a police report for the accident, when we told the officer the story he asked us which dealership, we told him and he said "we get complaints about them all the time".

interesting. who do you use for service now? I have been fed up with a few of the dealers around here. I ended up using PPA for Paul, not the dealership.

as for tuing the cars, i wasn't trying to imply he is the official acura technician, but i talked at length with him about what he does outside of PPA, and for PPA. as for thier 'rice' racers, it's that what we all have? he is the only comptech certified tech i have found (without leaving the state), and i have seen a couple of the SC he has installed. looked awesome. if i was putting on the SC today, my car with be with PPA...

I do all of the simple service, anything major I plan on having Mark Basch do, either here or at his shop in Phoenix.

I agree Paul is a good guy, but in order to get him to work on your car you have to take it to PPA, where as evidenced by my experience idiots will have access to your car and bad things can happen, and then they will try to screw you even more. So if you like gambling with your car by all means take it to PPA.

You really shouldn't have to go all the way to Phoenix just to get your car serviced.

I would suspect that one of the two dealers in Denver has an NSX tech who knows what he's doing. And there's also definitely a good one at Flatirons Acura in Boulder, as recommended in this thread.

I'm not taking anything away from Mark - he's terrific - but Phoenix is 840 miles from Colorado Springs, and Boulder is less than 100.

Cmarsh90's story isn't the only (bad) one I've heard about PPA. I've heard people employed there bragging about rodding around in customers' cars, new-off-the-truck cars, used cars, etc.

B/c we know of what happened in this case (and my utter sense of horror when listening to these two idiots brag) we're probably going to make this our procedure in taking cars to have Paul work on them: Make it very clear that we're going to note the odometer when we pull it into the service bay and there's going to be hell if there is even a tenth of a mile on the car. They don't get to pull it into/out of the bay and they don't get to test drive it even to check functionality of the job. Maybe even so they can't just disconnect the speed sensor we'll have to note tire position or some other hidden give-away.

A real GM (aren't leaders supposed to be ethical?) wouldn't put up with this shit for one second. I think I remember him trying to jerk around several other people I know when they were trying to buy/lease cars there.

It's also really not right at all when someone has to take this kind of care / caution when taking their car to be serviced.

Here's an example of the type of response you get when you know you're dealing with a quality person: A friend of mine used to valet park at the Brodmore. Some yutz that was new on the job dumped a new BMW down a flight of stairs or something like that (messed up bottom of car, alignment, etc). Instead of saying, "well, we'll get that fixed for you, you'll have your car in a few weeks," they called up the BMW dealership (who happened to have one identical car on the lot) and had the new car delived to the Broadmore within an hour (and then the Broadmore dealt with the hassle related to fixing the car and then probably getting it sold - and losing a few bucks....or turning the whole thing into insurance).

I'm not saying PPA shoud have given cmarsh90's dad a new car - but they should have taken responsibility and set things straight.

Your right Ken, however it is the only option I have. The dealers in Denver are only marginally competent, and Flatirons in Boulder is owned by the same guy who owns part of Pikes Peak Acura, he is the gentlemen who told his secretary to tell my father that he wouldn't even talk to him about this matter when he called. So obviously there is no way I would go to him.

Fortunately I can turn a wrench pretty well and a friend of mine has a nice shop with lift in his house that I can use.

I'm just curious what kind of "hell" you are thinking of? Legally there isn't really much that can be done. Seems logical to me to just avoid the whole situation to begin with and have a competent mechanic who works for an honest shop do the work.

Yah, obviously if you're going to take these kinds of precautions you'd have the service manager sign some piece of paperwork outlining what the recourse will be if it is driven (several-thousand-dollar fine for example). They won't sign it, they don't get the business.

Still stupid that we're even needing to talk about this. Too bad PPA can't hire a competant GM - I'm sure you or I could do far better than this half-wit.

Please let us all know when they sign this sort of an agreement.
