Unfortunately in this day and age, you almost have to carry a weapon to protect yourself and your family.
So you are saying that the USA is getting to the point where you are thankful that you are allowed to have guns to protect yourself? A place where you need to be armed to protect yourself? Nice place.
Is it kind of like Iraq in there? How is the US tourist industry faring these days? Um.

LOL Gheba! Nice riposte.

Gheba doesn’t have guns to protect himself from other people. He has guns to protect his country from other countries (not really needed these days, but in the past there have been some gnarly wars here so they needed them).
If you have guns to protect the USA, man, you guys must be scared sh*tless of Canada and Mexico!
We knew it!

Actually some of the places that every body should be given guns is, for example, in the Sudan where helpless villages are attacked by pussy armed gangs and massacred.
If they were armed the pussy gangs would run away.
Lots of helpless people in various African countries could use being armed too.
In places kind of like the Wild West where there is no law. So gun ownership does have a purpose. There, I said it.

I was particularly impressed by the fight that cult in the desert gave a few years ago, what was it called, where they held out against the police and then the buildings got set on fire and they all died. They gave a pretty good fight. The gang that attacked then was pretty surprised! Oh, wait it was the cops.
You know, the place where Timothy McVee was getting revenge for by blowing up the Oklahoma building? Forget the name now. Anyway guns were used for a useful purpose there, for defending themselves in a primitive and backward country.

flak jacket on!

NsXmas,

M4's rock! I also have AR15, AR180, HK91, HK93, FN-FNC, HK P7M8, FN 5.7 and Glock 22.

My next FA will be in .223-probably FNC since they are reasonably priced at about $7,000.

You can never have too many guns!!

No FNFAL?

Pull 100% of the guns off the street and the world would be a much better place.

Thats like saying if we killed a whole bunch of people, the world would be a better place. When did the land up there go commi?

no, actually, he's saying, "Pull 100% of the guns off the street and the world would be a much better place."

if you have a coherent argument against the idea of pulling 100% of the guns off the street (out of the hands of "bad guys"), i (for one) would love to hear it.

as for machine guns, until katrina / meltdown last year, i couldn't think of a valid reason why any civilian should be allowed to own them... i'm not so sure, anymore. <sigh>

and, btw, not everyone who doesn't think it's "normal" to be completely armed to the teeth is a communist.

Communist, that is a new one. Im an investment banker for crying out loud!

It really boils down to would you rather a criminal have a gun or not and if you could give up your own to make sure they did not have one, would you?

That said, that is a pipe dream. Criminals will always find a way to get at guns. But having more legitimate guns around increases their access.

I'd like to remind our socialist and facist friends out there that the right to bear arms in the US is not to protect us from each other, but is intended to protect us from our government. If the government is the only one with weapons, we'll have more than just criminals to fear.

[use of this post by a domestic spying program for any purpose other than entertainment is strictly prohibited]

Luv the guns!.. though I don't own one.

Wow!! Just a simple post to show my new gun and things get stirred up!!

Forget getting rid of 100% of the guns to make the world a better place, get rid of 100% of the world's religions!! Now we can debate both guns and religion!!

Seriously, religion is the greatest evil in the world today. It's time to get rid of that antiquated superstitious bullshit and move on. We are here for a very insignficant amount of time in the grand scheme of things. What matters most is being a good human being and treating everyone with respect and dignity, not who prays the most to some fictious being. Done with the religious rant.

Hal - you know I highly respect your opinion, but I think that we all take our democracy for granted.

What would have happened if before our war of independence the British took away all of our guns?

What happened in Germany during WWII when the disarmed Jews were murdered by the millions (I'm watch a History documentary on Auschwitz now - it's really chilling).

What happened in China during the Japanese rape of Nanking to the defenseless citizens?

It's nice to think that those in power can always be trusted and will protect the citizens. But history has proven time and time again that this is not the case.

Did you know that there are laws against criminals / felons from owning guns? Those guns are enforced harshly, but have so far failed to remove guns from criminals. The repetive calls to remove guns from the public has only served to disarm the law-abiding citizen, not the criminals.

Last, but not least, did you know that police has no duty to protect you, as an individual, from crime? Only you, have the power to protect yourself and your loved ones.

As much of a fan of our police forces as I am, I still take my personal safety and those of my loved ones in my hands. If my family come to harm, it is because I have failed as a protector and head of the household to adequately plan for events which may harm them.

As responsible citizens we all hate crime, but taking guns away from lawful citizens is never the answer.
Warren v. District of Columbia is one of the leading cases of this type. Two women were upstairs in a townhouse when they heard their roommate, a third woman, being attacked downstairs by intruders. They phoned the police several times and were assured that officers were on the way. After about 30 minutes, when their roommate's screams had stopped, they assumed the police had finally arrived. When the two women went downstairs they saw that in fact the police never came, but the intruders were still there. As the Warren court graphically states in the opinion: "For the next fourteen hours the women were held captive, raped, robbed, beaten, forced to commit sexual acts upon each other, and made to submit to the sexual demands of their attackers."

The three women sued the District of Columbia for failing to protect them, but D.C.'s highest court exonerated the District and its police, saying that it is a "fundamental principle of American law that a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any individual citizen." [4] There are many similar cases with results to the same effect.

as noted in my email, "as for machine guns, until katrina / meltdown last year, i couldn't think of a valid reason why any civilian should be allowed to own them... i'm not so sure, anymore."

i understand the points you cite, it's the full-auto part i'm uncertain about.

still, in today's post-katrina, fema / govt obviously can't-find-their-ass-with-a-magnifying glass-and-a-flashlight we live in, i'm re-thinking my full-auto position.

thx for the vote of confidence and the discourse. fwiw, i don't take our democracy for granted: i fought for it in southeast asia (i have plenty of full / semi auto time, thx for asking ;) and have voted in each election i have been eligible for since '72. (wow, now where did **those** years go? :)

Hehe, well don’t worry about it Zman, at least this time all us Thread Highjackers seem to have a light-hearted / humorous view on it.
Pretty funny clip there where that chick blew away her boyfriend! LOL. Great ad for a gun shop.

Good rant, I agree.
It seems to me that religions evolved to make everybody treat everyone with respect and dignity. Good thing and it actually worked for a while when nobody knew anything.
But now it just seems like it hasn’t modernised. I would say that science is the new religion.
In this age of variable valve timing and electronic injection, I don’t understand how people can believe in gods floating around up there making thunder and Cinderella and voodoo anymore.
Keep up the humour you guys!

I can see many of you love your guns, but I hope that you continue to treat them with the respect that they deserve, forever.

Afterall, they are made for one purpose and one purpose alone, to kill people.

Please dont consider them toys.

Im sure glad that us Canadians dont have to carry guns to protect ourselves from our government. Probably because the army doesnt have any, either

Yep, you heard it here first. Canada has an army.

LOL

Guns are a tool. They are used for hunting, target practice, and rarely, in civillian hands, to hurt others. As a self defense tool they work great, but it is just a tool.

Just like the knife is a tool. Now the UK has banned knives from its citizens.

How does a government fear and obey its people when its people are completely disarmed? Many dictators in the world use this to their advantage. I hope this never happens in the US or Canada.

Being safe is paramount. Being prepared also is important. :)

And I think the internet will destroy the world.

Anytime you put people with a similar cause together, their energies, both positive and negative, amplify eachother.

Look at what happens with big cities when they have strongly deliniated national neighbourhoods. The people who live within these "towns", stay in these "towns". They learn nothing about others and they find common hatred.

Anything that groups similar people together increases the potential for negative activities. Good things come from diversity and whenever groups are able to segregate themselves, there is a risk.

The internet brings common people together. Some common elements have the potential to become dangerous IMO.

Watch out S2ki, FChat, EliseTalk, PRIME will get'cha.
