Came home from work last Thursday and had this waiting on my doorstep! I picked it up from one of the recent Yahoo Japan auctions. Special thanks to Daryl @ JDM Speed shop (http://www.jdmspeedshop.com) for assisting me with the auction and shipping.

Hopefully, I'll get it mounted sometime this week.

Hahaha, you know Daryl? He and I go waaay back! A lot of my car comes via jdmspeedshop!

That is one sweet looking and I bet sounding system, is it totally custom? looks like $2-$3 M if bought new. I am wait for UPS to deliver my ARK dtx
today as well, cant wait to get rid of the Battle Star Galactia stock system.
Wonder if Ishould sell the oem and how much I could get for it?

Congratulations !!!

This is such good news that you finally acquired the 5.1.

I am still waiting to find a GT - One 5.1 single tip " LEV " type for my 2002 NSX.

Enjoy !!!

Ian

Thanks!
I finally get it, now I have to go out of town for a few days. :frown: Oh well, it should be installed sometime next week.
Good luck finding yours. Keep checking those yahoo Japan auctions.

Got it installed yesterday! I had my friend make a couple of runs so I could hear it from the outside. O M G.

Even though it sounds awesome, I'd still like it a bit louder. If I replace those crappy oem headers, will that add some more bark to it?

Yes, it will add some significant bark to it.
Then if you really want to go balls to the wall, remove the cats and add on some test pipes. You wont find a better sounding setup...period. The CTSC with headers and test pipes is the sexiest sounding exhaust setup around (at least on V6 and V8 engines).

I'd go test pipes, but I don't think I'd pass Maryland emission testing with them on?

I too thought the same thing. But, I passed the sniffer test here in Nashville. The key is too drive around for about 20 mins, hard, before you go to the testing facility. This will get the exhaust good and hot.

What is the worst thing that can happen? Dont they just tell you that you failed, you need to fix your car, then come back and test? if that is the case, then try it. If you dont pass, go home, pop your cats back on, then go and re-test.

In California, you would be sent to a State Referee; if you were pulled over and it was discovered you were not running cats, the car would be impounded, and you would receive a wicked $xxxx ticket, as well as a trip to the State Referee.

Getting the car hot before a smog is an attempt to heat up the internals of your catalytic converters, as they work more efficiently at higher temperature. If you are running straight pipes, that is, an 8" long segment of pipe, what are you heating up?

Well , he isnt in California. And chances are CA is the only state that has the Nazi carb laws.

You are basically heating up the exhaust piping, primarily the test pipes. The hotter the pipes are, the better the chance of getting a low reading from the sniffer. Essentially, the sniffer can be "tricked" if the exhaust/TP is at a high temperature. This also worked in KY, IN, and OH. But, we would actually try passing without driving the car hard. It would fail the sniffer. So, we tried it again the next day, get this car nice and hot before the sniffer test, and it passed with flying colors.

This was done on numerous makes and models of automobiles. I am just stating my past experience with test pipes and emissions testing. So far all of my test pipe equipped cars have passed sniffer tests.

What do you think a hot exhaust would do to help pass a sniffer test? All of the advice given regarding driving the car hard before a smog test is to get the cats as hot as possible to maximize their efficiency. If there are no cats to heat up, it's just a waste of time, money and energy.

Have you tried it before? Do you have any first hand accounts of this?
I do and it has worked for me and others that I run around with, PERIOD. Dont give me this shit about it is a waste of time, energy, and money, when I have done it. I have yet to fail a sniffer test with ANY of my vehicles that I ran test pipes on.

If Maryland doesnt have a penalty for failing the emissions test, and if he wants to have test pipes for his audibile pleasure, then it is worth a try for him. If he doesnt want to go through the hassle, then he wont. Or, if Maryland has some sort of monetary penalty, then it may not be worth the risk either.

Back on topic: Nice exhaust! Post some pics/vid if you can.

Is switching the cats for tp's a time consuming/pain in the arse job? If it's pretty simple, I may just switch back to cats for emission time.

Wow, that should have already been done.
