Not a bad choice. Must be quite expensive. Post pics when installed on the car.

Awesome acquisition! I'm very impressed by the craftsmanship & finish, looks first-class...

Ok, now details...

- how'd you get it! (ie. JDM importer or ordered it from Japan?)
- how much did you have to pay! (ie. any price difference being USD vs. Yen if acquired from abroad? int'l freight/duty/fees?)
- have to wait long for arrival? (ie. came on container ship or other shipping method?)

Post a sound-clip when get a chance...

p.s. those exhaust tips look sweet!

You guys won't believe me if I told you......I got real lucky on this one.....actually I did not want to replace my muffler when I first got my car since it had a aftermarket muffler on it.......found out for smog that the whole exhaust system had to be replaced since there were no cats on and one side was welded to the header directly from the muffler.......

so as fate has had it....Jon Martin knows everyone and his buddy alex who is the distributor of gruppe m in the US had this muffler sitting around for years...........he was planning to put it on his car but Mr. Gosei the founder/owner of Gruppe M said to sell it..........so Jon M told me about this muffler given my situation.........and he told me that there were only 3 in the world ever made.........the other two are in Japan.......and I am the only one in the US or anywhere to have one...........

the cost of this muffler was about $2800.00 plus two catalytic converters at $1250 each and DC headers at $1250 that I needed............so I spent around $7000.00 for my full exhaust! ...I also have the grupp m air filter with it $800.00.....and I love how it sounds!!!! I will post a clip and picture on the car when I get a chance.....thanks for the comments guys......=)

So far the total I have spent on mods on my car so far is around $30k or so but I am almost done as far as how I want the car to look..just a few more parts and I am done.....after this is doing the 3.8L stroker motor developed by John Martin.......and I will totally be done with my car....ta dah! and 50k later I am done  shoot me now!!

once again thank you jin, dave and osiris its been fun so far......you guys have pretty awesome cars yourself.........post some pics of your cars or link me to some pics.......I want to see

special thanks to Mark Johnson of Dali racing for supplying some of my parts and being a silly guy!
and of course special thanks to John Martin of Southbay Acura who has overseen my car for the last 6 months in putting it together......almost done John and time for cruising!!!! and hello to my buddy Frank another local southbay nsxer

Go hard or go home...

Man, no shortcuts w/ you!?!

Did you have to get special cats' or you went aftermarket w/ high-flow ones? That's A-L-O-T of coin for cats', grrr...
(don't tell me they are OEM!?!)

That's what I like about the Gruppe_M v.1, the ability to keep the cats'. I believe the Gruppe_M v.2 eliminates cats', something I'd not be too keen about doing.

Well for almost 3G's, you did get the the best sounding exhaust for a NSX available, IMHO! Tubi, fughettaboutit...

(The $ for your Gruppe_M v.1, you could've gotten 4 ARK'ers & hooked them up, lol... look like a orchestra's brass section or I.E.B.'s ~ Individual Exhaust Bodies, haha! )

Oh yea, I use to live in Redondo Beach (noticed you're Southbay!) & I interned in Norwalk...

Jin,

very nice jin! blue is actually my favorite color........I was thinking of repainting my car a custom blue as well but then I thought nah.....I'll just leave it alone til the paint fades......but very nice pics man.......

Osiris,

yes they are both stock cats at that price! but they last the longest......aftermarket cats will go in about a year of everyday useage......and from what John told me that the stock cats have platinum inside them..........they are made to last a very long time............but still its damn expensive! I can get them for cheaper now, theres places out there that sell oem parts at a discount (oemacuraparts.com)..........so maybe $900 a cat? or get some used ones from dali.........
oh yeah I noticed that you were from the southbay....cool deals how do you like Texas now? I have relatives in Houston.....living in medical district (braesewood? i think thats how you spell it?)

Isr,

Thanks for the comment.....the exhaust came like that with the sandblasting on the tips so that was a bonus....... I thought that was pretty cool.....

dave,

about the v3 in those tips I don't think they make them that way unless you can ask mr. gosei to make you a custom one for you
both the v2 and v3 are nice and sound great.......

Gerard,

I think the muffler is about 21 lbs? I'll have to ask john later but I am pretty sure its around that weight........

I will post more pics of the car when they get the other stuff installed......still got some parts I am waiting for

have a good day today guys....its rainy and gloomy here in southern cali today!

cats' & dogs...

Plans for the 3.8L stroker, you're not messin' around...

Regarding the OEM cats' for NA1 NSX's, many Acura dealers as well as parts suppliers extend a 25% discount, sometimes even 30%... bein' in SoCal you'll have no problems getting a competitive price. However, you might want to check out ERZ wreckers out in Brooklyn NY & their other operation in SoFL (All Type Auto). They deal w/ salvaging/rebuilding/parting high-end cars & have alot of NSX parts. I believe I got quoted $500 for a pair of OEM NA2 cats' (for '97+ NSX's) a few months back.

I'm rather curious about this as well, Comptech's Hi-Flow Cats'...

I'm not sure how vital it is to have "brand-new" cats', perhaps some of the more mechanically inclined members can offer insights on that.

 This is probably the best kept secret from Alex. I have never heard him mention the v1 until now. I'm really curious and want to hear it in person, how it compares to the v2 and v3. I'd imagine that it has to sound different than them since it has 1 canister and makes use of the cats.

It was amazing how well they tuned the v3 to sound like the v2. Now I really want to hear the v1. Congrats on your find!

Hi Cdub,

Thanks it is........I feel fortunate to have it on my car even though I scuffed it already  you are more than welcome to come see it at South Bay Acura with Jon Martin......my car is being worked on by his guys........so if you get bored feel free to go check it out......he told me some guy from pomona drove down to see it........ it sounds pretty good to me its just not as loud as the other gruppe m mufflers........

Not too loud is always good. I switch back to v2 just because the v3 that I got from Alex was just scary loud from the outside. Love the tone from both versions though. That's why I'm interested to hear yours. If it sounds anything like the v2 or v3 with lesser volume, you have a winner in your hands.

Man, that is one nice looking exhaust...Why was this exhaust kept as a secret???!!!I would buy this over the tubi's or any other... What the hell going on? I want one!

 thanks man.....wow! I did not know that this many people would like this muffler.........i still think the v2 and v3 are nice mufflers too.....maybe you guys can ask alex to see if they can make those to fit cats......like one for cats and one without for people that want it that way.....

This is an interesting exhuast...so is this version discontinued? For some reason or another, they still list it on the Gruppe M site in Japan.

If it is still availible, I'd be interestd to see how high it tucks into the body work since I'd like to know if I could run a rear diffuser with it and how does it sounds compared to the Taitec GT Lightweight exhaust....

Hey George,

As far as the diffuser I am not sure that can work or not....you can ask john martin or alex....... the body of the muffler does come down at an angle........and from what I know from Jon there is only 3 floating around........2 in Japan and 1 here. The sound is different to me by the gruppe m has a deep throaty meaty sound where the taitec has a higher screaming sound but a nice one.........both are real nice exhausts......the reason why I chose the gruppe me was to be original.......thats why i chose it and the wheels I have on......both are the only to exist in the US.

Ed,
Thanks for the response and pics...looks like hangs down too low for a diffuser (other than a NSX-R style one)...

Awsome looking exhaust nonetheless...congrats.

Hi George,

No problem.....good luck with your situation.......be careful of those diffusers they are not really made for street driving......
