My first time out on the track with nsx.

Re: More and More Serious Accidents at DE Events

I have seen four serious accidents at three DE events in the past 5 weeks. No person was seriously injured but the cars surely were: two hit walls hard, one cartwheeled rear over nose after hitting a puddle of water near the end of a straight and one rolled. When talking with friends, I used to say that I rarely saw serious accidents at DE events - not anymore.
what kind of jankey-ass DE lets beginners race around a puddle laden track at speed?
Just makes me glad the local DE makes sure to put lots of precautions in place in the event that someone might get over their head.

puddles on a race track. lol made my day

Puddles on a race track, you don't live in the Northwest. We could get in maybe one DE a year if you couldn't drive with puddles on the track. Hell, we do DEs in the rain!

Come to think of it, I drive a car in the rain, probably makes sense to learn how to drive in the same conditions. That would be a good lesson for everyone around here, seeing how they all seem to run into each other as soon as a drop of rain falls!

Shunts are a part of DE's,unfortunatly. The longer you do this the more crack ups you see.To blame the organizers or instructers as a whole is silly. These things happen.I've seen plenty of crunched cars, luckily few injuries.Puddles, deer, muskrat, ice and snow in the NE,are all part of the DE experience. So are flipped cars and smoldering autobody parts!

Hmm, good point on that one, I think about half of all motorists' iqs drop as soon as the rain comes

Still , i'm quite curious as to why 140mph + turn + rain equation even began. Thats a chief reason why whenever i go play with my car (or in some cases truck off road) i tape a handy little sticker that has protecteded me well up till now

"Remember stupid, you're driving this home"

Sticker

That sticker should be standard equipment on all of our cars we track:D !!!

I'll never forget my 2-3 laps as a passenger in an F40 driven by a gentleman who knew how to drive it. As I was getting strapped in, I noticed the speedometer had a sticker covering most of the numbers that read "EYES UP."

I guess for some people that's habit. my friend asked me during my last track day how fast i was getting up to on the straight, and i just replied "who actually reads the speedo?"
I could maybe tell you what rpm i was at, but thats about it

I have learned more in one day @ Gingerman in the rain all day than I did in 5 dry HPDE events.

On a side note, I have done track events where it snowed the night before, and they had to plow the track, then the sun and heat came out and all day it was dry/wet all over the track. I have also been in dense fog (that was interesting!) No matter what conditions you are in, there is always something to learn about car control. Have you ever watched a season of racing and the guy who always finishes near the back wins the rain event? He may be down on power when it is dry, but he is up on experience when skill is needed. I always seem to do well in adverse conditions. :D
