My first speeding ticket in 5 years!

I dont think that it would be reasonable to say "let me off because this guy went an unreasonable speed trying to catch me". That is just wrong. But what it would do is tell the officer, at the side of the road, that you have him on record admitting to doing something that his office may deem unacceptable. He may have cut some slack.

For us in areas where they have spectre equipped cop cars, there is only one choice, the Beltronics STi. Where they are legal, myself, Id also consider the X50 and the V1 along with the STi. Remember that you can hook up the X50 and STi to laser jamming diodes too, which may be important.

I think I would play off a judge's feelings towards someone who has sworn to uphold the public safety and places those very same people at peril by passing them at double the posted speed limit. Suppose for instance an officer gets into a shootout and manages to cap the bad guy but kills two innocent people at the same time-does he go home and say he's done his duty? There are many times when an officers incompetence will get him in trouble in court and whether the judge decides to punish the other party (in this case me) is entirely up to him or her. I don't think embarassing someone in court is a good idea either since in a smaller community like mine word can travel fast and it wouldn't be hard to be marked in an NSX that's for damn sure. Like i said i'm now looking for a radar detector and will re-double my efforts to know whats around me.

If you brought the quote from the officer saying he was doing 200km/h to catch up with you. The officer will saying something along the lines of. 'I do not recall making the statement'. The is no way a cop will openly admit that unless you have witnesses that saw the police car travelling at high speeds or proof he was going the fast. (vehicle transponder?).

Years ago I was doing 70km/h in a 60 zone on my motorbike which incidently had a loud exhaust. It was night time so it was dark with no traffic at all. I passed by a Tim Hortons donut shop and a cop was in the parking lot at a stand still. He pulled out, chased me, got within 10 meters of me (had to get that close to get my plate), pulled me over and gave me a ticket for doing 40 over. I said to me that he had to do over 140 km/h to catch up to me. He didn't have any forms of radar but 'followed me for a few blocks' to give me a ticket on 'my speed' based on 'his speed reading from his speedometer'.

I thought it was complete b/s because I looked at my speedometer and it was at 70 km/h the whole way. Basically I fought this one in court on my own and stated this. I brought up the comment about the officer saying he did over 140 to catch up to me but he pulled the line 'I do recall making an such statement'. I asked the officer how positive he was in saying I was doing 100 km/h and at what point he was 'right on my tail'. He gave a start location and 'right on my tail' location. I concluded that he had to be doing at least 140 km/h for him to have caught up to me with no lights or sirens and that would be a no no when chasing someone on public roads or I was never doing 100 km/h to begin with.

Sure I was doing 10 over and that is speeding. But I feel I was singled out because I was on a sportbike with a loud exhaust. What troubles me is that this cop had the nerve to basically lie and give me a ticket for something I never did. I lost alot of faith and creditibility in cops after that incident. He wasn't young either. He was a veteran cop with no partner at the time.

I have 2 feelings on police.

One, they are here to protect us.

Two, they are too lazy to come by to help a laddie who was getting the s#$t kicked out of her by her boyfriend when I called them. Or, can't be bothered with a house getting ransacked by theives when I called them about a neighbour. They say they have priorities. Ya like pulling cars over to make quotas.

Does any member have an opinion on the Escort 9500i with GPS? I hear it works well but is new and may have its faults. Here in BC detectors are legal so I don't need one that can hide from a "detector-detector". The Valentine 1's seem highly touted as well. In my speeding ticket case a rear alarm would have been beneficial if the cop had actually been able to get a reading on my speed. In my case he saw me accelerate and decided I would be somebody worth catching up to (from what I gathered from our discussion). We also argued about putting a front plate on the car. I said it would affect the ability for the rad to cool and said I would do everything I could to not place it in front of the bumper.

There are big problems with the new Escort 9500i and the majority of people are returning them because of less range than the Valentine One and the 8500X50.

They are locking out signals from door openers and the 9500i is not alerting to cops that shoot radar in that area. Owners of the 9500i are also complaining that signals that they lock out are not staying locked out from the day before. They also say that their Sirius/XM radio is cutting out because of the 9500i and its GPS function.

Thanks for the info RaDaRKiNg, I did email Escort and asked them if they had any "refurbished or pre-owned" models of the 9500i for sale and they said they had none. Strange if so many say they are returning it that Escort would be out of them. I think i will wait until the bugs are worked out of the 9500i. My brother just bought an 8500 and intends to use it on the highway only whereas I would be more in-town driving and some highway.

We would never, ever shoot at somebody if we thought we'd hit an innocent person behind them.

Name one incident in Canada where this has happened.

Great I feel much safer already!!

Name one incident in Canada where this has happened.

I was creating a situation not describing one that occurred. Simply answer this: would you exceed the posted speed limit by 100kph to nail someone for a minor speeding infraction? You say you will be an officer shortly, give us some justification as to why you would take such a risk for so little reward?
Where would you draw the line between public interest and risk to the public?

I wouldn't. It's not worth my effort and the danger to the public.

If I thought it was justified, I might radio another car to try and get you up ahead, though.

That said, there are certainly good reasons to engage in pursuits.

^^when you talk about pursuits, do you mean "Nathan-like pursuits" where you follow a girl to the library, to the store, to the movies....
