My first speeding ticket in 5 years!

Wow who would guess that in only a week and a half of driving my newly acquired '91 NSX (red) that I would pull off something I hadn't managed to do in 5 years of speeding around in a '01 Ford Escape (blue)...go figure!

The cop said he could have given me a larger fine ($400 range) and when I enquired as to why he claimed that "he had to hit 200kph just to catch up to me." well duh, you were at an intersection with a red light and I was already merging onto a three lane highway at around 90kph. I wonder why he decided to single me out after watching me merge onto a highway at a reasonable speed. I have done it many times at the same speed and same location before without drawing attention from police.

I have realized that the NSX is going to attract a ton more attention than I would like to see. I have accelerated my plans to get the latest and best radar detector out there. Any recommendations. I personally like the Escort 9500i however I hear there are bugs to be worked out...any ideas?

The radar detector may help, but you could also try not speeding.
That's a zero cost option right there.

Well I hate to admit it but I didn't buy the car to drive the speed limit everywhere. I think I was singled out but thats my opinion. The cop even said he liked the car alot so there you go.....

I've always heard that cops notice red cars more, but did not understand just how much red cars stand out from the rest of traffic until recently.

The cop told you that he had to go 200kph to catch you?

Id have asked him if that was a reasonable action on his behalf given that its twice the legal speedlimit.

That probably would have netted me a ton more tickets :D

I think you are right. Your car was picked out for two reasons:
1. Red
2. Sports Car

You drove a Ford Escape before and didn't get any tickets. Two reasons for that also:
1. Not red
2. Not a sports car

I have a red NSX too, and as such, we just have to be more careful when driving to avoid being pulled over (especially onramps - easy pickings for Highway Patrol).

Boo hoo. I'd single you out too, if I had the choice of pulling over Joe Blow, or Joe Blow in the red sports car.

You don't want tickets, drive the limit. You want to go fast and not come here to complain about getting "singled out", go to the track.

Too bad you weren't a cop, cause pulling over drivers because their car is red and a sports car would have you in court more often than Judge Judy.

Not when they're speeding it wouldn't.

I've been pulled 5 times since I bought mine. Once for speeding. Once for stunting. The other three because my car is red and sporty. Comes with the territory.

And in a year, I am a cop. So if I see you speeding, I'll say hi. :D

Now I'm glad I have a Sebring Silver.
I got pulled over once and wasn't even going to argue doing 70 in a 50. Next thing I know the cop asks what my record was ( clean) and lets me off with a warning. Couldn't figure out why then I realized I had my employee name tag on from a local hospital. If you want to speed, you can't always beat em so join em:biggrin:

I got a ticket 2 weeks ago on my way to a track event of all things.

I was on the 401 and a Camry blew past me at about 150-160kph. Traffic slowed him down and I passed him, then a couple of minutes later he was right on my but.

I went around some traffic so I could move over and let him by. We must have passed a cruiser at that point, anyway he takes off at Warp 2 and I got pulled over.

Stupid? Maybe, but I had 2 friends in the last year involved in accidents because someone was tailgating them and driving aggressively.

I'm fighting it, but not holding my breath. My only defence is that the cop said he dected a radar detector in my car which I don't have. Hmmm... could it have been the Camry's???

I bet none of us ever go past the speed limit?

Maybe I should the NSX and get a Honda Fit????

Dave, do you have one of those?
Does it work?

But I still say that most of the *traps* on the 401 are laser, and that wont save you. Next in line is pacing, and that wont save you either (unless theyre pacing with radar, which is 50/50). This will save you from the stationary radar and the pacing radar, which is probably only 25% of the time.

Works very well if you PAY ATTENTION while youre driving. If you're snoozing, you will still get nailed most of the time. :D

Snoozing or if you have a big ass wing or group M supercharger and have no rearward view at all....

Does any member have an opinion on the Escort 9500i with GPS? I hear it works well but is new and may have its faults. Here in BC detectors are legal so I don't need one that can hide from a "detector-detector". The Valentine 1's seem highly touted as well. In my speeding ticket case a rear alarm would have been beneficial if the cop had actually been able to get a reading on my speed. In my case he saw me accelerate and decided I would be somebody worth catching up to (from what I gathered from our discussion). We also argued about putting a front plate on the car. I said it would affect the ability for the rad to cool and said I would do everything I could to not place it in front of the bumper.

Oh Dave you have the Gruppe M as well? I though you ran a Comptech?

I have the V1 and its saved me a few times last year. Suddenly this year I am having bad luck:
1) nailed going 147 in 100 zone (115 south of Peterborough in the family SUV while chatting with the wife and forgetting how fast I was cruising).

2) Coming home from Hanson Day at Mosport and got clocked doing 96 in 80 zone (Hwy & near Marmora enroute to Ottawa). I was actually being conservative since I was in the nsx! The cop was nice though and knocked it down to 94 so I won't lose points.

Both times I didn't have the V1 on. Note to self: need to buy a 2-into-1 cigarette plug so I can use the V1 along with my portable GPS! :P

BTW My V1 is for sale!

If you brought this up in a court of law,I'm willing to bet it would have a favourable result.Just because you are speeding(90 in a 70?) doesn't mean he has the right to ENDANGER THE PUBLIC by driving at an admitted speed of 200k ,in a car which has no business going that fast,ie. does not stop, steer or avoid obsacles anything close to an NSX,not only this but now that i think of it i was pretty sure most rcmp cruisers are speed limited to 170,and i also beleive they are not supposed to pursue anyone if it poses a risk to the public,I'd like to see him swerve at 200 !!! I,for one would'nt want to go that fast in a cop car.

I'm thinking along the same lines, going 200kph to give someone a $196 speeding ticket is reckless. Is anyone's life worth $196 to this BC government? If so then it can be said that there is blood on their hands when either a cop or civilian is killed in a speeding ticket pursuit. I can understand the need to pursue a stolen vehicle, or someone who just committed a robbery but why go to such lengths to pull someone over in a sports car that is just slightly over a posted speed limit and in check with other traffic around it.
