MP3 Headphone Jack to NSX Cassette

Has anyone tried hooking up a MP3 player via the headphone jack connection to the cassette player?

I was considering getting one of those nifty Apple iPod units...

...and I was just wondering if how the quality was through the headphone/cassette connection.

just use a cassette deck thinger that hookes into the headphone jack on the MP3 player. Works great. I have the sensory science mp3 player with a 64 mb extended smart card. Works great. Never skips. Holds about 40 songs.

Thanks for the info. I was concerned that the sound quality might not be up to par through the cassette connection.

The iPod holds up to 1000 songs (5 GB) and I'm getting tired of changing and reloading CD caddies and going to the trunk all the time.

I can put ALL my CDs plus all my downloaded songs onto the iPod and I can simply velcro it to the console somewhere and then take it with me.

Nifty.

Jim my experience is that playing music through the cassette interface is degraded. I think some of it depends on how good an ear you have and what freq range the music you listen to happens to span. For me I just found it too bad for me to stand it. I gave up and put a Y in on the CD player.

I've seen a real nice installation before where someone spliced the R&L audio signal from the CD changer through a mini-plug. He had a switch that when he wanted to listen to his MP3 player, he would switch the signal to the mini-plug and play the CD changer. The factory deck would of course play the MP3 signal through the stock speakers.

A wireless connection from a MP3 player to the car stereo. You simply plug-in this device into the headphone jack and then simply tune the FM radio to one of several channels.

It's priced right too. I might try it.

I posted this link a while ago without much intrest. This thing is a cassete with up to 192 MB of ram. You just download the music from your computer and pop it in the cassete player. It also plays through headphones if you want.

I've tried an FM/RF Modulator before and it was complete crap. But this was a LONG Time ago (5-7 years ago?). I went back to the Cassette/Headphone adapter. I'm sure they've improved quite a bit since they have CD Changers with FM Modulators.

Maybe not as "practical" for the portable MP3 players... but here's something interesting you guys with phatboxes (or other audio sources) might want to try?

You may want to check out an Archos, it works with PCs and Macs. I have the 6GB jukebox recorder and it's quite nice. It plays and records mp3s - great for playing tunes in the car or recording a lecture.

The iPod can physically connect to a Windows PC assuming it has a FireWire connection.

The problem is that there's no software to support this connection...But...

Mediafour has announced support for Windows with their XPlay product...

It doesn't appear to be as elegant as the iPod-iTunes-Mac solution, but it does look like they're heading in the right direction.

Has anyone tried the Creative Labs Nomad Juke box, at around $200, it holds approximately 100 hours of music. Seems like a good value. I'll probably pick one up in the next couple of weeks. I think the FM connection will work fine. Has anyone spliced an 1/8th female jack into their system?

Better off do what I did, take out the stock deck and take it to a electronics place (knowlegable one). Have them install a input jack on the face of the unit or like I did from the back with a cord that I have run into my ash tray. All I have to do know is plug any audio device (mp3 player inluded) into the jack and audio will automatically be transfered to your device. It's really cheap and looks stock, plus sound quality will be better than any other adaptor.

What channel do you use to hear from the input jack? Cassette?

hmmm, to be honest I'm not sure what the technician did. I believe the input uses it's own channel as no matter what your listening too, wether it be radio, cd or cassette, once you plug in your MP3 player it overides all other signals. I'll try to find out what he did exactly and post later.
