Hello Prime!
I haven't been a member here for very long but I think (thought) I found the NSX for me. A red/red 91 with 77k miled for 29650.
A buddy of mine came down for a week and I subsequently took leave in conjunction with him in the hopes of road tripping in his 370z 1066 miles to go pick up the car. I had been in contact (and still am) with the seller, another Prime member, for some time before we decided to make it happen. So I went to three banking establishments to procure a loan, got accepted by one "approved with conditions". NO PROBLEM! I was stoaked.
So i set up an account with AAG (Automotive Assurance Group) to have a 10 page inspection / appraisal / carfax / certificate / official photos / paint depth guage / test drive etc. The works, basically. Everything was going swimmingly untill I was contacted by AAG and tolld about the Paint Test. There were some Irregular readings but nothing to be alarmed about. So I inquired upon the car fax provided by AAG.
Here's where it gets dicey. The carfax shows accident history. WAIT A MINUTE! Seller affirms there has been no accident history on the car. I must investigate! TO THE BATCAVE!
Now I have spoken to the seller many many hours and over many many emails and I sence no deception what so ever. he seems like a very genuine fella and overall good guy that may have been at the wrong end of the barrel when purchasing his car.
SO! His report pulled in 2005 shows no accidents on the car. My report pulled yesterday shows accident history in NY mid 2003. So with the paint depth test and my carfax report, it confirms the car has been hit. So the NY DMV must not have reported the accident untill after the seller purchased the car because of backlogs or whatever reason.
BOTTOM LINE! I want to help the seller get compensation for getting screwed because good people don't deserve to get swindled. Hes a good fella and if it were me, I'D BE PISSED when buying a vehicle of this calibur and not get what I paid for.
Some things I have considered on behalf of the seller: Contacting NYstate DMV, contacting NYPD for a police report (if there was an accident, theres a DMV record and a police report), having the seller contact AAG for help persuing previous owner.
Make no mistake, I still want the car and am willing to have it taken to a professional shop to have the body re-aligned. But that will cost A LOT. but i'm willing to do it. Or just have it professionally inspected to see if any integrity has been lost.
TLDR; buying car, one carfax shows accident, other does not. want to help seller persue legal action against previous owner. Still want the car.
