for pre-'95 Xs, is there a tool (or software) that can be used to get diagnostic information like ignition timing, O2 sensor readings, etc.?

Not that I am aware of. The OBD1 system just did not make this info available:(. I have been looking for the same thing.

If you do find something, please let us know:).

Thanks,

I missed out on one..... the Mac Tool guy buys out the garages of businesses that have gone out of business.... then resales the pieces..... He bought out a Honda dealership that closed, but i got out bidded on the Honda unit. :-( very upset.

I dont really dont want to know how much they want for a new one.

that is about the only one that i know of that will do OBD1, but i dont know exactly to what extent. There is a OBD1 diagnostic ports, but now clear documentation on the data protocol. I know some EXPENSIVE SnapOn/MacTool/OTC scanners have adapters to plug into it, and "software" plug in moduals that will let you diag & clear codes..... but i cant get a clear answer if it will let you monitor.

"Anyone work at a Honda or Acura dealership, can clear that up for us??"

Ray,

Do you know of the connector on the car for this? I have a 1991 and there is no connector, I am aware of, for this. Only to set it into "check" mode and display the DTC's by blinking the MIL. In the schematic in the 1991 NSX service manual, there is no connector listed.

Typically a "Honda" tool is listed in the service manual, but again I only have a 1991 manual.

Maybe this is available 1992-1994 some time??

Thanks,
LarryB

Larry is right, I went through this with my dealer.
They could not get a reading from my O2 sensors.
He said they can on OBDII systems.

After a little research today, it does appear that there are some OBD1 cars that have a diagnostic connector: FORD, GM, Chrysler, and it seems VW too:).

Unforturnately not our Honda products:(.

i've seen odb1 diag tools and they "say" it's for import like honda, toyota, etc.... they usually show up in the ads for kragen. not sure if any of these are useful or not.

I am home now, dug through the car.... could not find the connector....

Whipped out the old service manual and looked at the pin-out for the ECU..... No Such Connector!

Wild. First OBD1 Honda i've come across with out it. My 95 civic Si had one, and my 95 GSR had one. It was a 3 wire connector, bundled up with the 2 pin check engine light jumper. It was some sort of serial communication port described in the service manual.

Larry is right like always! :D
