May not be work safe medical type question..

I'm sure that's what the surgeon was thinking when he extracted the maggots: "man, these would make great fishing bait". :D

Next we'll be talking about foot infections... anyone remember that thread?
Heyyy, fishermen can be doctors too. :D

My question is how did they spring up overnight from just sitting in the wrapper in the microwave?

I'm guessing that the fly got to it before it went into the microwave. My question is how did the larvae survive the microwave?

There are also parasites that inject their eggs below the skin level and they...
well you get the idea.
I was considering a job in East Africa until I found out the successful bidder had to provide facilities to steam all underwear to kill the egg-laying parasites. Imagine that. Could you even sit still if you had an itch?

I decided I'm not going to go to a place where it's a requirement to steam your underwear.

It could be worse.. .you could be working in an area inhabited by the dreaded candirú fish. .....but I digress

( Disclaimer: I would not recommend doing research on this fish if you are at all squeamish)

Could this video possibly be fake? Last semester my English professor had the students go to snopes.com, which is a web site that brings out the truth behind Urban Legends. The site also contains many pictures that are declared True, False, or Undetermined. This is where I came across a picture of a breast that sounds identical the one described, but it is a fake photograph that has been manipulated to look this way.

Here is a little info on what Snopes has to say about the photo: "This image appears to be the product of the melding of a photograph of a woman's breast and a picture of something similar to a lotus seed pod."

For those who are daring enough, here is a link to the*warning*: graphic picture

I'm not about to click on that link as I think I have that picture too. I'm just starting to get over it. :D The picture I have did indeed look like it was (poorly) manipulated, but the video looks very real.

Haven't seen the video, but that photo you linked to is definitely a fake.
The "maggot" everyone keeps referring to is the larva of the botfly. It burrows into subcutaneous tissues, and has a small spiracle leading to the surface to allow it to breathe. (Like a snorkel!). The spiracle is visible as a small red inflamed point on the skin. Do a google on "botfly" for lots of gross pictures!
