My sister purchased a 1987 Honda Accord LX with only 69K miles from the neighbor's grandmother who past away recently. The car sits for about 2-3 months then is driven for a few days then sits again for a few months.

Any advice on good preventitive maintenance that should be done right now before she goes on several LONG trips? T-Belt was never done, just oil changes twice a year.

Thanks in advance.

Are you saying the timing belt has lasted 17 years??? Taking a long trip on a 17 year old timing belt is asking for trouble. I would start with that along with the water pump, drive belts, hoses.

Along with that do the normal stuff like inspect the tires, brakes, fluids, and battery. Might even be a good idea to have a good mechanic look at it, in my opinion one of the worst things for a car is to let it sit for extended periods.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.

Any idea how much all of those items might cost (with out labor)?

Thanks!
