does the low fuel light come on when starting the car? mine does not. is this normal? I tried to run the car until the light came on but chickened out after running the car for about 340 miles on the tank. the needle was in the red for a long time! I filled it w/ 15.2gals for about 22.5mpg. I read in the FAQ that the light comes on w/ 2.5gals left. I guess I should have drove it for another 10-12 miles.

wondering the same thing. I'm always too afraid to let it go to the bottom, but this one time i just plain forgot, and I had to drive awhile before a gas station was around. still no low fuel light.

add me to the list.. i've never seen the light either and it felt like i was running on vapors...

Mine's on right now. Only the 2nd time since '98. You've got to take it WAY low!

is the needle pegged at the bottom? if so, for how long before the light came on?

You have to go way low...... but you know you still have some left when you take a hard corner and the fuel light fades out, then fades back in a few seconds later.....

when it stops doing that..... better hope your pulling into the gas station.

Thats weird. Mines always on. Mine seems to turn on right before hitting the last mark on the fuel gauge.

mine will sit on totally empty for 50 miles before the light, and then anotther 40+ till i run outta gas... the gas gauge is not too accurate i guess, since i get about 15 MPG...

When I first bought the car I refuel whenever the needle is at the empty mark because I afraid that my gas light may not work. Then I read the FAQs and decided to drive below the empty mark to see if the gas light is working and it did. Ever since I only refuel when my gas light turned on which is around 15.5 gallons.

I have never noticed mine ever going on either, but haven't really tried too. ;)

My is on quite often...but I try not to let it get that low if I have a choice. Running the car that low is usually bad for the vehicle, since when you are really low you begin to suck up the crud and other dirt that has settled at the bottom of your gas tank.

How do you figure? The pump is at the bottom of the tank so it would just suck up that 'crud' anyways.

Also, I run the tank almost empty on many other vehicles including the NSX with no ill effects. They all still run strong as ever and get great fuel economy.

Maybe I can believe that you shouldn't run the tank low because the pump relies on the fuel for cooling but not what you posted.
