Last night when I was driving home from work, I would give it gas and the car would spuder. So today I replaced the air filter and changed the spark plugs. I noticed one of my plugs was alittle wet like wasnt lighting the gas. So now the new NGk are in and car runs better, but when the car is at ideal I can hear a low poping noise coming out of the exhaust. I only had yo pay for the air filter $26 and the plugs I got for free and took about a hour to change.

hey Zack

you in moorpark california? you know Justen Mazda Speed? I use to go out to the meets there and lived in simi.

according to your descriptions, I would do a resistance test on that coil pack and check the ignition system.

is this bogging at lower RPM or higher rpm?

also light throttle, part throttle or heavy accleration?

regards

Rob

What year is you car Zack? If its a 95, then you could get your coils replaced for free by the dealer... if not, i'd replace them, since I just went thru something similar. GL

My car is a 91, after I pulled out the old plugs i was looking at them, 5 of them looked normal but one looked charded around the nut and was alittle wet. How can I check the coils? I have no problem pulling them out but where do I take then to get checked? I think one coil might be bad

Easy to test with an ohmmeter, check out the online manual. The test isn't absolute, since it doesn't duplicate the high-voltages that can cause arcing, but if it fails the test you know it's bad. Based on the description of the plug, I would bet it's the coil. Post back your results.

Same thing happened to mine (erratic popping from exhaust and misfiring). I found that water had gotten into one of the rear spark plug wells, and would cause the coil pack to short out. Inspect the plugs and coil pack stems well for moisture and water damage. I had to replace the bad coil, and replaced the coil cover gaskets at the same time.

If you do have water in the spark plug hole, this is typically because someone installed the coil covers reversed. Make sure the gasket is on the top(intake) side of the coil cover when installed. They are marked "FR" and "RR" for front/rear respectively. I see this a lot:).

If it's not the coil, check the injectors. I would pull out the injectors and send em to RC to get cleaned and balanced (rebuilt).

I tried the coil resistance test, I was using a gay old ohmmeter the reads with the moving needle, the needle moved all the way over saying good. My buddy has a digital one Im going to try this weekend.

the ommeter I used sucked, wouldn't even read a #, the needle went from one side to the other, so after this weekend when I try the digital one I will let you guys know whats going on, The weird thing is when I start the car it runs fine with no problem, but after I run it for like 15 min and stop and the car ideals I hear the low poping noise. Even when I take off it runs ok, I also thought fuel filter, don't know if it was ever changed befor I bought the car in 05

Ok I finally got the pics of my spark Plugs, 5 of them look ok but look at the last one, If im standing on the passenger side doing the tune up. That plug was in the rear cylinder closet to the cam. What # is that one?

Cylinder #1. Same one on mine with the water intrusion.

Isn’t the gray cover with 6 bolts before you see the coils? I dont remember seeing a gasket will check this weekend, I called the dealer and one coil was $105.

yes the gasket is on the grey cover. There is only one gasket and it goes on the top side of the grey cover.

the biggest mistake everyone makes is start ordering parts thinking it will fix the problem. if they guessed correctly and the coil over plug ignitor fixes the problem... great, spent 105$ well. If that is not the problem they just paid 105$ for nothing, maybe its now the "fuel filter" so anyother 30$ ..... nope, didnt fix the problem..... how about a new air filter... .nope... new plugs.... nope.... etc.

there is a trouble shooting diagram in the nsx manual which walks step by step through trouble shooting rough idle or bogging issues.

Ok, I took out 3 coil packs, 2 on the rear where the rusted plus was and one in the front. Took to a shop I use to work in and all read 1.3. So my coils are good. Now im Going to try to test the injectors.

Your coil *may* be good. The bad plug looks like it has carbon trails on the insulator. If so, then the coil was arcing. Also, the tip looks fouled. When you pulled the plug, wasn't it wet with gas? Another test is to run the car with the suspect coil plugged in to the harness and attached to a used plug that's grounded to see if it gives consistent spark. Easier to see when done in a dimly lit garage.

A while back my check eng light came on. I just checked it and read code 46 Also the abs light flashed twice, does that mean anything? For code # 2 would be rear o2 sensor, which thats where my problem is.
