I seriously considered buying an original, but three things: the car makes an awful daily driver, the mild steel monocoque will simply melt in the ocean air and if I damage it: I've damaged history. So a modern GT40 or an accurate reproduction will suit me fine. The reproduction will be "vintage raced" since there really isn't much use for it....doubtful the wife will want to drive around in it with me.

Superformance builds the Noble and this car supposedly has the steel roof (like origional) with 90% of parts interchangable of origional. I will take one with MK1 body and Gulf flares please. As for color, gulf or red with white stripes.

I like the Ford GT personally.....but as for me I would still buy a 360 over it.

As a car enthusiast I like all types of cars whether it be a classic hot rod to a Enzo Ferrari. As I have stated Honda Motor Co. is a very enviromentally friendly and conservative company. Hopefully they will be going in a better direction now with the 290hp limit rule out the window. With the promise of a V10 they show promise for having another supercar. Hopefully it will be a success. :smile:

Leno is comparing two differnt "racing history." You don't find fords in racing leagues honda belongs to. Today every IRL car runs honda wheres ford in irl or f1? Anyhow, ford gt is a great sports car...but doesn't do anything for me.

wow......this is not even close to right. Your post is closely related to propaganda spread long ago to discredit the american victory. Try reading up on the subject before posting a bunch of garbage. Just about everything on, in, or related to the Lola was scrapped to make the GT40 the race car it bacame.

The agreement with Lola cars manager Eric Broadley included a one year collaboration between Ford and Broadley and the sale of the two Lola Mk 6 chassis built to Ford. To form the development team, Ford also hired the already ex-Aston Martin team manager John Wyer. Ford Motor Co. engineer Roy Lunn was sent to England. Lunn had designed the mid-engined Mustang 1 concept car powered by a 1.7 L V4. Despite the small engine of the Mustang 1, Lunn was the only Dearborn's engineer to have some experience with a mid-engined car.

Broadley, Lunn and Wyer began working on the new car at Lola Factory in Bromley. At the end of 1963 the team moved to Slough, England near Heathrow airport. Ford established a new subsidiary under the direction of Wyer, Ford Advanced Vehicles Ltd to manage the project.

The first chassis built by Abbey Panels of Coventry was delivered on March 16, 1963. The first "Ford GT" the GT/101 was unveiled in England on April 1st and soon after exhibited in New York.
 
hehe yeah, honda couldnt do A-arms that fall apart and leaky shaft seals. i want to see a GT in 14 years, bet its nowhere near as solid as my 92
 
Context....
It seems to me(at 8am before my coffee), that he's just saying Honda couldn't do it in a marketing/sales sense. He said, the NSX was better then the Ferraris when introduced.
 
This is probably the only real resistance the NSX encounters- people just can't accept that it is a REAL exotic because it comes from the same manufacturer that builds the Civic. Yet those same people would loudly proclaim the X factor for a car built by the same manufacturer of the Escort

An aluminum body, mid mounted engine, and R&D with a Formula 1 genius lends itself to the reality- the NSX is an exotic, Honda or no- just like the Ford GT is an exotic, even though built by generic manufacturer.

As of 10 or 12 weeks ago Mr. Leno WAS in fact interested in the NSX because the dealership I bought from, myself, and Mr. Leno were in a pissing match for the sale price of my NSX.

As I had posted earlier, the unit I bought was suppose to go to the Acura Museum but Acura people decided to pick another unit not the LAST production model as planned. Jay was all for having this in his little garage but when push came to shove... I guess he decided not to part with the final price I HAD with the dealership. It wasn't worth it to him at that price...

Wow! Congrats....I am sure if he really wanted the car he could have bought it. Mr. Leno has plenty of coins in the piggy bank to buy cars.

Congrats! You have a piece of Honda history! How did you learn that it was the last one? Is it the last one worldwide, the last LHD...tell us more!

It's the last manual US-Spec car offered for sale, but it's uncertain whether this, or automatic car #8 was built later. Only a check of the two VIN labels in the doorjamb can definitely say which was built later. That might be a bit difficult now, as automatic car #8 was exported to the UAE.

Also, it's very likely that there are Japanese spec cars built after this one, as I'm sure Honda Japan would keep the very last one.

The other car that American Honda is putting in the Acura museum is most likely #238, because there's no record of it anywhere.

IIRC, the original GT40 had the 40 in its name because it sat 40" tall. The new GT sits, I believe, 46" tall. GT46 doesn't flow as well, and it wouldn't be right to name it GT40 when people who know its history knows it isn't 40" anymore. Also, the Mustang GT was a trim, not a model, just like there's a Ceilca GTS, ITR, ect.

For those who say "it's just a Ford," our beloved NSX is "just a Honda" to others right? Let's not turn this forum into another F-car site: "it still isn't a Ferrari!"

I would love to have a Ford GT, it is a fantastic car. Yes, i do believe that there should have been more thought into making sure nothing is wrong with a car that would cost 150k, but even our NSX had snap ring failure in the first couple of years; althuogh, Ford GT problems seem more serious.

I'd still take an NSX-R over it though.

Has anybody mentioned that Ford has lost $5.8B? Mr. Leno is as big a car buff as anyone on the planet. He likes rare cars and has a good head for what has value. Maybe he recognizes that Ford may not be around long? All that history and no future is a sad thing. If Honda capitalized on their history, we'd be driving 50cc two wheeled NSX's next. Evolution requires looking forward and Ford doesn't seem to be looking in that direction.

You mean to tell me Jay Leno wanted this particular NSX and you outbid him? Ironic, the Sultan of Brunai wanted my house but I outbid him:rolleyes: Lets get serious:wink:

That's not what he said. He said the final sale price was more than Jay wanted to pay for an NSX... There is a difference (even if only slight)
