Left turn signal will not stay engaged?

Right turn signal...no problem.
I now have to hold the signal stalk down...Left turn signal does not want to stay engaged?
Any ideas?

I appreciate all the help...and I'm half way through the "won't cancel" cleaning...BUT I swear, the "WON'T STAY ENGAGED" feels like a mechanical detent affecting the left turn signal!

Any new/different advise?

Ps...without the electrical system on, I'd think the contacts in the cancel mechanism would not work so this does not seem to be electrical contact related...AGREE?

I got a replacement turn signal stalk last week (from Forum Member Viewfromtheback), did the install this weekend...WORKS AS ADVERTISED!!! Thanks...
Now, here's the kicker. When I was "robbing" a replacement lightbulb from my old set-up, I accidently bumped the turn signal stalk (harder than I would have been comfortable to do on purpose)...and that FIXED the issue (it was stuck or something).

So now I have an "extra one"!!!
