Leather Massage

This leather thing is honestly something that any car could fall victim to. I see weird creases in the leather seats of our other carlines all the time. Difference is that nobody is looking that close for flaws on a MDX. And everyone is fairly realistic about it...

With fear that my whining is veering from the thread subject...I agree things like seats are expected to be used/creased/worn-in, but they'll also luckily covered & out of sight when used. I'm just unsure about using soft materials on a dashboard surface or glove compartment door, always in the line of sight, instead of sticking to something more resistant to wear marks. One accidental fingernail scratch on the dashboard leather and I'd be really bummed every time I saw it, whereas that same fingernail would not leave a mark on the gen-1 dashboard. Anyway, this is whining about something beyond just Acura/gen-2 NSX.

This is not the gen 1 car. There were several aspects of the gen 1 where "in the end it's still a Honda" could be said, like when it came time to do an oil change or stuff like the dashboard materials were pretty much like an Accord. But there were also parts of the gen 1 that were just as fragile as the gen 2 is. The inner door panels for example. I have yet to see a single one that doesn't have at least one or two of the mounting "ears" broken off or that soft puffy leather insert by the door handle isn't all scratched up.

From day one this gen 2 was going to be a true supercar. Not the supercar"-ish" car the gen 1 was. It was going to be direct competition against cars like the Audi R8 V10, Ferrari 458, Porsche 911 Turbo, McLaren 570, etc. And every single one of those cars have interiors that are just as fragile. But they are all "special" cars. You could daily drive them...but why would you. If you're the type of person that can lay out $200k+ for a sports car, then surely you have at least one other more practical car to go get groceries with. This is why trunk space is not that big of a priority on the white board when these kind of cars are designed. And it's also why Alcantara and/or expensive leathers aren't on the door panels of a Honda Odyssey.

Much of this is due to the frustration from how buggy and frustratingly complex the infotainment system is and how many flaws there are with the MDX because of quality control on the assembly line. (Panel gaps, paint quality, bolts not tightened, etc)

Once my car arrives I will quiet down and likely disappear from the frayDo you know why Acura does not want owners to change wheel styles? I was told by the NSX specialist that cars with Y spoke wheels for example should only use Y spoke wheels for their second set of wheels

Two points:

1. I hope to God they did not emphasize delivery-day bling over reasonable resistance to normal wear. The goal should be for a car to feel "like new" for as long as possible, even if the starting level of bling has to take a slight hit.

2. I don't mind, in the abstract, if certain aspects of the car are "straight from Honda parts bin"/suppliers. But, the quid-pro-quo is that the car, on a holistic basis, needs to be a compelling value. I'm thinking of the Z06 here as a good example of a total package for <$100K that has some crappy bits (but much improved). I'm hoping the NSX has the same philosophy / compelling value feel to it, albeit at 2X the price.

In other words, I agree to forgive the plastic Honda Accord bits and non-elite leather as long as the rest of the car is stellar (and not just on delivery day). By pricing the NSX at $200K out-the-door instead of $150K out-the-door, they have raised the bar on themselves in this regard. I hope they deliver.
