Kubica's crash at CGP

Re: pretty close to head on

I didn't think it was a big deal after watching Katherine Legge walk away from her Champ Car wreck in the Lola just last year. I still can't believe she made an appearance within 20 minutes of her accident. Kubica's crash seemes mild by comparison.

Don't get me started... :frown:
the champ car was a big fireball in addition to the crash.

You can just tell how fast Kubica's accident happened-- one of the corner workers hasn't even had time to look towards the accident... one of those guys had an interesting front row view of the car getting launched into the wall.

Both of those wrecks made my heart sink. I could not believe that Miss Legge walked away from such a violent crash. I had similiar feelings for Kubica as well. I did not think that he would survive that crash.

There was actually a thread I viewed somewhere where they had interviewed the local Quebec doctor on scene and he said when saw the wreck he thought he was going to get to the scene and find a deceased driver. He said he was amazed to find him still alive.

The strengeth of F1 cars and Champ Cars as well is AMAZING.

I'll bet they're probably worth more than their weight in gold
True dat especially when you consider the value of protecting the money maker inside.

Well you lost me there, 2tall. I don't remember Legge's crash involving a big fireball. What are you saying?

Let's see:

1320 lbs. (car and driver) x 16 oz. / lb. x $649 / oz. (gold) = $13.7M

BMW Sauber Budget 2006 = $378M

I'll take 27 solid gold cars please...

As for the fireball, after further review of video, it wasn't much more than some flames during impact. My PTSD must have caused me to remember it differently.

Kubic's crash gave me the same feelling Senna's did. Sick, very sick. It's strange that they said he was out when they got to him, because when you watch the crash, he's moving the fingers on his left hand as he comes to a rest? Don't know how those guys get back in the car after that type of crash??? Big attachments for sure.

Funny, I thought the same thing. When I saw his head slump I could only think of Senna's head movement after his crash. As we all know it wasn't the impact that killed Senna but a suspension part through the helmet. When the car gets obliterated like that anything can happen.

Let's not forget Senna's role in F1 safety. He was one of the loudest voices and a true martyr for F1 safety.

Looking at that pic it is truly a miracle he didn't lose his feet. Very graphic image. Wow. F1 safety has come such a long way in the last 20 years. And make no mistake--Kubica was very lucky any way you slice it.

Glad to hear he's back in the saddle. Almost every driver mentioned him post-race. He seems to be very well-liked and is becoming a serious threat out there on the grid. He could win a race someday soon.

Varsha or Matchett noted that Ron Dennis asked Hamilton sometime back, which driver he most, what was the word, respected, or admired or thought of as a role model? LH said it was Kubica.

And did you see where Toyota "forgave" Trulli for driving straight into the wall on pit out because he was upset and distracted over the crash and seeing Kubica being attended to in the car for so long?

Not the way we'd like it to happen, but that story (and that whole race) will probably boost ratings for some time to come.

Hey, I mentioned this already. Man, I know most of my posts get ignored by shees:tongue:

In the pic in post 16, between credit suisse and intel is that his drink bottle that is spraying water or is that something else?

This one was pretty big, my buddy Joey Hand:

Mid-Ohio? Holy smokes, I remember that. I hope the drivers realize that the audience gets fairly emotional and incredibly supportive when this stuff happens.

After seeing some of these crashes live(ish) on TV, I have to say I can't imagine the juevos it takes to get back into a race car. And even more props, for those who are as fast, if not faster, than they are before the accident.

Re: pretty close to head on

FIA does not allow Kubica to start, bad for him, good for Vettel. I'm excited, he's younger than me and going to drive a F1 gp! Wow.

that wreck was right in front of the grandstand where i was sitting. i had just left to walk around to the other side of the track when it happened so i missed the entire wreck.

glad he came out with minor injuries. it's amazing how durable those tubs are.

Wow that simulation is CRAZY!!!! He was very very lucky and like shawn said has brass balls for getting back in the saddle so fast.
