Kids' Day 2013 Caravan - July 23, 2013

Bob,
My route is:
I-287 N to I-80W
I-80 W from NJ into PA (join sdufass at Delaware Water Gap rest stop on 80 at approx 11:15 am)
I-380 N
I-81 N from PA into NY
NY 17 W (where we join your group)

You previously stated 1pm at 81/17 split (MP 245), so is approx 1:30 pm at MP 212 on NY 17 OK?

I haven't seen anything indicating docjohn will join the 2 of us.

Yes, 1:30 at rest stop on 17. Takes too much time to get everyone off and into truck stop in Binghamton so everyone hair keep heading west on 17

John has separate travel plans and most likely wont be able to join a caravan

Bob D. and I will be at the Honda dealership in Middletown @ Exit 4w I-84 to rt17 junction @ 10am. exit 120 on 17. it is first exit after galleria then right back on 17west no time lost only 1 car.

You will be earlier than us. We are leaving the rest stop on 684 north at 10:30 am. It is approximately 60 miles from that rest stop to exit 120 so that puts us there around 11:25

Bob D. and I are set. Please disregard that post. Thank You. See you on the road.

ps: that is if i can get bob up. haha!
pps: hey, it's almost 4am sunday now, get your ass out of bed!

I'll be hauling my Miata up on a trailer. I'll try to make the rest area at 13:30 and The Falls @ 15:00 but I won't be able to keep up with you guys.

As a backup, what is the address of the camp so I can find it on Google Maps.

I will have an empty seat and can pick somebody up at the PA Welcome Center at Exit 310 on I-80 just after the toll booth entering PA. Let me know...

Just to be clear, the empty seat that I'm offering is in my truck... lol

Bob O. pls disregard posts #31 and #32. We will be at the Honda dealership at 11am tomorrow.

The last time we tried to hook up with the 81 caravan at the 17/81 split outside of binghamton most gps' got drivers lost looking for the truck stop. As a result, the final meeting place for the caravans to hook up will be at the rest stop on 17 west about 30 miles outside of binghamton. This will be in place of the old rest stop meeting place so please stay on 17 at binghamton and pull into that rest stop.

This rest stop is between Exits 64 and 63 (numbers go down westbound) at milepost 212(http://www.upstatenyroads.com/i86.shtml) 81/17 "merge" outside binghamton is generally around milepost 245.

We will be leaving that rest stop at 1:30 pm. Please time your individual caravans accordingly. If any one group gets to that rest area earlier than 1:00 pm, you might as well head straight to the motel to check in rather than wait at the rest stop.

RSO
I looked at upstatenyroads . com - is it mile 221 [ not 212 ]?
That's what jives with 'between" exits 63 and 64.

Sorry for my senior/blonde/dyslexic moment

We may be in for some rainy weather on the way up. This is quite common this time of year. I expect it to be sunny tonight for the lawn display. That' why it is called CAMP GOOD DAYS.
Those of you traveling may wish to bring extra towels and a bucket for quick wipe down of NSX up @ the Glen. Also, maybe adjust your departure times an hour earlier for any of you newcomers to this event for wipe down of the car. Remember NSX's do not rust!!!!

MOST OF ALL DON"T LET WHATEVER YOU HEAR DAMPEN YOUR SPIRITS. THESE KID"S NEED US!!!!

Leaving central Mass within the hour, looks like I'll have some rain to ride through, but the NSX is a car, not a sugar cube. It'll get washed when I get home. I'm not planning on meeting up with anyone to caravan since my route is out the Mass Pike and then southwest. See you guys this afternoon. All have a safe ride.

-Dom

In 2012, we hit severe thunderstorms on the way; my NSX hasn't rusted yet.

But, I learned something I've since seen as a safety tip: wear polarized sunglasses - they help see through the scattered light from the rain. I was moving comfortably at a good speed, thought it was getting a little dark, lifted my sunglasses and couldn't see a few car lengths ahead. Sunglasses back on and all was well again.!

Safe travels everyone. I live about 1/2 hour from the Glen and I hope the weather wrung itself out for you. I'd be there with the NSX if it weren't being worked on right now. Have fun and enjoy.
