Looking at the diy to mod the Keyless entry to provide a visual notification of arm/disarm (lock/unlock), if I choose to have the tail lights flash, does that mean that the only the tail lights flash or does the front parking lights flash as well?

Front park lamps, side markers will flash as well as rear tail lamps

Just a heads up. I did the modification to flash the taillights / parking lights when I lock the car with the OEM keyless system. It works, but, its not that effective. You have to be looking at the car (in which case why not just stand next to the car and watch the lock knob?) and on very bright days the flash can be easy to miss. I ended up connecting into the horn; but, you need to modify the circuit. The lock pulse is too long - you get a blast rather than a chirp from the horn. I used a 555 timer circuit in monostable mode to initiate a short pulse (chirp) to the horn when activated by the lock pulse.

Interesting. Instead of connecting to the horn wire, it is possible to wire up an external piezo siren that's not as loud as the horn?

Yes - you will need a relay to handle the current for the piezo.

I initially tried this with a small sonalert mounted inside the car. The sonalert was not weather resistant so I did no mounting under the front hood plus I did not want to mess with getting wires through the front firewall. The audible range was too short and it still had an annoyingly long signal. Its an option worth trying if you want to experiment.

I have used a little piezo buzzer like the one shown on the KP website on other projects. KP describes it as a soft beep. That is an overstatement. If there is traffic noise in the area and you are more than 10 ft from the car you will never hear the 'beep'. The click of the locks closing makes more noise than that thing. If you want a Lexus like beep, better to go to a pick and pull and pick one off of a wrecker.

why did you put the year 2018 in your title...makes it seem like your question is about the new nsx:confused:

Sorry, didn't think about that. In my searches I kept coming up with really old info and I was trying to let folks know this was a newer thread.

I wouldn't worry too much about an audible indication. the OE keyless has a very short range compared to today's keyless remotes. At night and/or in a garage the park lamp flash is excellent. On a very bright day, you are close enough to the car to hear the power locks. :-)

Another question, with the flash mod done, do the lights flash once for lock and once for unlock? If that's the case how can you tell if the car is locked or unlocked. Is there a difference between each flash? Let's assume i'm too far away to see the locks move up or down.

Just like the button on the remote, there is no distinction between lock and un-lock. Its a toggle function - late 1980's technology. If you want separation of the lock and unlock functions you probably need to be considering an aftermarket system of some kind.

Simple: assume the car is locked if you see the lights flash. Here is why: the system reverts to locked/armed if the driver's door is not opened within ~30 seconds.

If the car is unlocked/unarmed: a system arm request will lock them.
If the car is locked/armed: a system disarm request will [briefly] unlock the doors. If the driver door is NOT opened within ~30 seconds, the system will automatically re-lock the doors and rearm the system.

This behavior of the OEM system is a bit maddening as the system has a habit of locking the doors after you open the door for the passenger and can't around the car fast enough to open the driver's door.

I never knew how the system worked.
Also, I thought my battery in the FOB was dead since it is has such a tiny range.
