Just want to lower an inch

Is there only one Bilstein shock made for the NSX that you can place on the lower perch? What are they called, and who has the best price?

Sadly yes, only one. They offer only the "HD" (Heavy Duty) series for the NSX which by their own description is an OEM equivalent in terms of valve rates and therefore best suited to springs with rates close to stock for correct balance. Their "sport" series shocks have higher damping rates as is appropriate for stiffer springs, but are not offered for the NSX.

Shop around via the web, then compare prices with Dali Racing.

I too am interested in lowering my car just an inch. From the comments above, the Tien full coilover system sounds good. My question is, how much does the Tien setup cost (for a '91)? Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a vendor?

TIA

Jason

I too agree that Bilstein and the stock spring is the best combo. One thing that wasn't discussed is alignment. I had eibachs before and I couldn't align the rear back to OEM specs. There are some who had eibachs and had no problem aligning them to OEM specs, but there are some, like me, who couldn't. In any case, I believe that the bilstein and the stock spring setup is the lowest you can go and be able to align the car back to OEM specs. I had tein RAs before on my old sports car and it was too stiff for me. But that's just me.

ATTN: So Cal's who want to lower your car..Go see my buddy Steve at HW Motorsports in Garden Grove. He can hook you up with Bilstien/Eibach combo and alignment for @$1100....That is a very good price..tell him Mark with the NSX sent you...Less then $500 if you just want springs....Also his rim and tire deals are unbeatable...

Lowering

I am one of those ppl who have eibach and oem shocks, I think that if you are only interested in lowering the car to fill the gaps then, this set up is not bad. Personally for me I wish I had just gone with teins. I have been tracking my car and I don't think the performance of eibach and oem are a good setup. Now I'm going to have to spend more money to buy teins and have them installed.

One of local guys here in N CA installed TEIN's & has been complaining ever since about the ride quality - I though this may be set-up/adjustment issue. However at our last meet, I rode in a car set up by Andrie Hartanto, who I suspect knows what he;'s doing! & have to say the ride was horrible - very pogo-stick like is best way I can think to describe it. Definitely not impressed. I imagine they probably work really well on the track, but for street use I don't care for them at all.
Another option form Dali, is the adjustable coilover option for the Bilsteins - this gives more variability to ride height rather than just the fixed perch option. http://www.daliracing.com/v666-5/catalog/suspension/Bilstein_Coilover.cfm?focus=715
Very similar product to Ground Control which offers Bilstein or Koni shocks, or just the coilover adapter for the stock shocks.

Personally, I think the TEIN's ride very nicely. It's all a matter of preference. It sounds like that particular car has been setup by Andrie for track use... or maybe set it up to the way he likes the ride...

But if you "Just want to lower an inch" like the topic title says... I would go with the Bilstein's/OEM springs setup... or if you don't want to spend as much money, go ahead and get just the springs.

Thank you gentlemen for the responses posted since I've revived this thread...

I think that ride quality is more important to me than appearance, but not by much. Cost is not so much of an issue, really.

So what are my needs? Well, in order, they are:
1) Keep ride quality similar to factory
2) Lower suspension 1.0" +/- .25"
3) Keep cost for parts below $1000
4) Provide better handling for AutoX events (I've never had my car out, yet)

What I need to do is drive someone's car that has the TEIN's installed, and also drive one that has the Bilstein's/OEM springs setup, to see how the difference is. Can anyone in Sacto help me get a feel for the ride quality of these options? PM me if you have either of these setups and can meet.

Autophile,

If requirement #3 still stands, the TEIN's alone will cost more than $1000. Bilsteins/OEM setup sounds ideal in your case. Especially since you mentioned improved performance on the autox track. The Bilsteins/OEM springs setup sounds like it meets all four of your requirements PERFECTLY.

Thanks Powered by Honda! I guess you've made my decision easy then. I'll look into the Bilstein/OEM spring setup.
