Is this too good to be true, 1991 NSX, 60k, clean title, $3500

I have a friend that found this Nsx at http://www.sellmycar.com/81800.htm, a 1991 red NSX with 60k, great looking car, for ONLY $3500.

The name of he website is sellmycar.com. My friend contacted the seller via email on numerous occasions, carfax is clean, and sellmycar.com has a 5 day test drive money back guarantee.

My friend paid $3500 through Western union to sellmycar.com as a third party. The seller has paid a flat rate for shipping the car from San Francisco to Baton Rouge, LA.

My friend got an e-confirmation from sellmycar.com stating that payment for the vehicle had been received. The owner has three days to ship the car or sellmycar.com will refund the $3500.

My friend believes that the seller is in the military because the $3500 is to go to a US military base in Spain should the deal go to fruition. The seller claims that he needs to get rid of the vehicle as he travels a lot and has little or no use for the car.

Sellmycar.com states that they will give email confirmation when the car is shipped. My friend paid the money yesterday.

Is anyone on Prime familiar with sellmycar.com? Is this deal too good to be true? Has anyone seen this car before or does anyone know whose car this might be? Any help in obtaining information on this vehicle and sellmycar.com would be appreciated by my friend greatly. Thanks.

Are you serious? Yep, it's a scam. Your friend needs to get his money back ASAP! Actually, that may not even be possible at this point. I'm pretty sure that web site just offers listing (like Auto Trader) and does not handle money - escrow or otherwise - so the money did not really go to them. From what you've said, the scammer already has the money.

Wow, I can't believe your friend fell for that:eek:
I'm sure SOMEONE is going to have a good time with that money, sadly, I don't think it will be your friend as he has been GOT !!

Tell your friend to kiss those funds good bye. According to the "Visitor's Agreement" at sellmycar.com, they don't guarantee anything:

SellMyCar.com is not responsible for, and does not guarantee the performance of any such goods or services, or agreements entered into from vendors listed on the SellMyCar.com web site.

How can anyone honestly think they can buy a car like this for $3500 and have the seller also pay the cost of shipping from San Francisco to Baton Rouge?

Things don't look good.

X2

As I read the original post I was just thinking to myself, is this really a true story? I bet cross country shipping was included in that price too?

Re: Things don't look good.

I used to ask myself how people still bother with these scams since EVERYBODY knows about them by now.

I guess I have my answer. :(

I seriously think your buddy got taken and if not, then kudos to him for receiving the lowest price that I have ever heard. If possible, there are plenty of prime members in the SF area that will take a look at this car for him if given an address. My guess is that the seller will probably post a bogus address to your friend but someone familiar to the area or local can at least take a peek and verify. Good luck!

Why didn't you ask us earlier, like before your friend sent the money?
As I read your post, I was really hoping to read a happy ending. But then when I got to the part that he just sent the money yesterday, I said "Oh NO!"

This is the same scam which ran throughout the Pantera community. Transaction and price are the same, just a different car. Yep, he got screwed and the money is history.

Your friend is softer than Elton John at the playboy mansion.

1) Not familiar with sellmycar.com.
2) Yes, too good to be true, and ad does not state VIN. Notice non-scam ads will have VIN posted in the listing.
3) I think I have seen this NSX with the black CF hood. The NSX is in the SF Bay Area, but the seller is probably not the owner of the NSX that is shown in the ad.

Sorry to say, but my observation is pointing me to a scam.:frown:

Just a note for the future: Paying by Western Union is like a cashier's check made payable to cash. Once the recipient gets the check, it's too late.

These scams show up all the time. If you are sending money thru Western Union, then it is definitely a scam.

Take your friend out to a bar, and buy him a beer. Better yet, take him to the strip bar and buy him a lap dance.

It appears that the seller has more than one of these incredible deals. He has just offered the car to me after I posted an inquiry on the site last night. I am trying to get him to give me a local contact as I requested a cash sale "for tax purposes" so let's see if he goes for the bait. Although unlikely, if I can string him along it may provide you with a name and number to forward to the police for a sting.

The car I'm selling is 100% working and good looking,no scratches or any kind of damage. The car is in the US. I have the clear title in hand. I'm a serious seller and a fair trader and I prefer to deal only with a serious buyer. I am not trying to close a prepaid transaction with you, i realise that this is not acceptable. Anyway, I have to let you know that I want a fast deal because I need the money asap and that is also the reason why I am selling it at a lower price, so if you are really interested in buying it, please reply .I am not in the city, so the transaction has to be made from distance. I have a contract abroad with my job and I don't know exactly when I'm comming back in the US.I am in Madrid, Spain right now, but I will pay the shipping fees. All documents will be provided along with the car.The transaction will be made through a third party company for a safe trade.

I believe Ray Charles could see that scam.

What these jackass scammers need to do is to figure out a way to scam the other scammers. In other words, figure out how to get money out of the original scammer. That way, they'll just be trading fraudulent money amongst themselves and my Ebay stock will go up!

A kid at a lemonade stand could sell a clean NSX for more than $3500. I'm shocked that someone would actually fall for this...:frown:

Oh my gosh, I seriously hope you're just playing around because I suddenly felt sick to my stomach!!!! We all have to learn tough lessons in life...(believe me, I've learned a few), but this was tough to swallow. Well, I certainly hope he gets something back, but it looks pretty grim:frown:
Good luck with this situation anyway.

As the saying goes, those who are stupid usually part quickly with their money. You realize just the engine or just the transmission is worth the asking price right?

You think someone who actually owns an NSX is idiotic enough to sell it for 3500 if he paid 30,000$+?

Sucker born every day.

Unless it's sitting in the bottom of a lake , I'd say there is no car, it's just a scam. These "deals" are on Ebay everyday.

Sorry man, this was a scam the whole way.

I really feel sorry for this guy. He is not really a "friend." I just met him yesterday as I was leaving my apartments to go to my parents for the evening.
I was getting ready to pull out of the apartments when this guy pulled up in a 300ZX, and waved me down. He excitedly told me that he had a red 1991coming in the next week. He wanted to know how I liked my car, etc. He is a local fireman, and, a good kid. I say this because he is probably in his early twenties and I am 46.
We talked for a while and I asked him how he found the car, and he was soooo... excited because he had gotten it for only $3500, and the seller had paid the shipping. Red flags went up immediately, and, I told him to take me to his place and show me the deal.
I immediately went to Prime and posted that, all the time having this sick feeling in my gut for the kid. It is really rotten what people do these days.
I believe that whoever did this will have a special extra hot place in HELL waiting for him. I feel terribly for this young guy. I just wish he would have come to me before he sent his money. Thanks
