Is the NSX thermostat same as other Honda cars?

Can I use any Honda thermostat and put it in the NSX?

Why would you want to do this? To save money? Or maybe you have one laying around the garage. I suppose as long as it opens at the correct temp and fits correctly you should be okay.

The only part on my engine (other than O2 sensors) that has failed in my 9 years of ownership -- the thermostat. Acura uses a rubber o-ring on the moving plate that can come dislodged and "mushroom", preventing proper operation of the thermostat, such as won't fully close or restricted flow. I replaced mine nearly 4 years ago with the same-temperature NAPA "generic" thermostat with excellent results.

Thats interesting. I also like the thermostats that can't fail fully closed.

One of my mechanics recommends to punch out the pins or create a small hole so that if it does close shut, you still get some coolant.. I've done it on my two other cars with blown engines  but not the NSX.

I just buy a new stock one, or a spiffy Spoon or something.
