Is it typical to almost cry tears of joy the first day you own your NSX.

I still can't believe it... After two years of searching and researching, I finally have my NSX. :D

Over the past two years I have looked at NSXs from Las Vegas West, to up and down the East coast. Of couse after all those miles and time spent looking all over the country, where does my NSX show up? Wouldn't you know it, at a Honda dealership just half an hour from my home.

I am still totally freaked out. Its a Red 1997 one (previous) owner with only... get this now... 6400 miles!!! 50 of which I put on last night, and this morning.

The car really looks and smells like new, a statement that I read in a lot of adds over the past couple of years, but rarely actually found to be true.

Many thanks to the original owner, an airline pilot from Meritt Island Florida, for taking such beautiful care of this car. If this sounds like anyone who still belongs to this forum, or if you may know who this person is. Please thank him for me, and let him know that I will do my best to take good care of it as its new owner.

Also, thanks to all the knowlegable people in this forum. Up to now I have only posted a few times, but I have been reading all over the place in here in order to learn what to look for and lookout for when trying to find the best NSX that you can afford.

So my first real question as a new owner is: How do you deal with the paranoia you feel when parking your NSX anywhere except in your garage? If I were to park close too where I'm going, I could get door dings (or worse). If I park in the boonies, I feel like my NSX is too far away and unprotected from evil (even with the car alarms). :p

Second and probably more importantly: How long does it take for this shaking business to stop??? Every time I get in, its like the car injects 1000 CCs of adrenaline into me. :p

Later...

Congratulations!!

I'm sorry but the fears and woes you describe above are something you will have to deal with as an Exotic Car owner.

All I can say is: Park away...far far away from minivans!

Congrats! Sometimes the best things come to those who wait. :)

I've had my NSX for one and a half years now, and still get goose bumps when I see it in my garage. I can relate to the parking thing; I only take mine out when I don't have to park at any one place for very long. Keep it parked within visible view if possible (like at a restaurant where you can see it from a window seat ;)), but not too close to the busy spaces.

Enjoy your new car!

To me, parking is always an issue. I always try to park far away and never take up two spaces. I also try to park near other nice cars.

If someone wants to damage your car bad enough, they will get you no matter where you park though. Someone nailed my door about a month after I bought mine. They would have had to park IN my space to hit my door as I was in the last space and "hugging" the curb.

BTW, Congrats!

Oh yeah, one more piece of advice about parking: always put your T-top on, roll up your windows, and lock your car--no matter how briefly you'll be away from the car--as someone speaking from experience.

One more thing.... you'll be surprised how many nice restaurants and clubs will let you park right in front in the VIP spots! Ive noticed this a few times.

Special thanks to the bouncers at 4th Dimension and Q's.

Thanks Everyone,

It’s going to take me a while before I can start to relax behind the wheel of this incredible machine.

I’m still all wound up and nursing the ulcer I got from negotiating the release of my hostage NSX from the evil car dealers. ;)

Seriously though, it took over 4 1/2 hours of negotiating with 4 sales people and the sales manager to close the deal. I walked out twice on them, only to have the sales manger chase my wife and I all the way to my car and make the concession I wanted in order to get me to come back in and continue with the deal.

It was a BLAST!! I never had so much fun working a deal in my life! My wife was ready to kill me, because she just wanted me to hurry up and get the car, so we could go out to dinner.

When the dust settled though I got, the price, interest rate, trade-in price, and the monthly payment I wanted. I still can’t believe it.

I am going to be on my third one here shortly. NSXes are wonderful, and I am thinking about moving up to a Targa.

Congratulations on the new NSX. I totally understand where you are coming from. We have owned ours for 1 month and 2 days now and I always get that same feeling I did the first time I saw it every time I open the door to my garage, even if it's just to go out and gaze at it (which I do frequently!). And the feeling when the engine fires up! Indescribable...

The paranoia is amazing. I always park way out with spots that are far away from anyone else but it seems that half the time, someone ends up parking all the way out there next to me. I don't get it, all those other spaces:confused:. I too am still searching for that medium between too far away for security and too close for damage.

I see you are in Florida too. Hopefully you are planning on attending one of the upcoming meets such as the NSX/S2000 super meet at the beginnig of April?

I've been so busy trying to find my NSX that I hadn't even heard about it. Please point me in the direction of the details about the event...

Thanks

The details other than the dates are not available yet but you can check http://www.nsxflorida.com periodically for information on Florida meets. The last one was just a few days before we purchased our NSX and there were 24 NSX's there. The April get together is a three day event so there are sure to be a good number of nice cars there.

My NSX is almost four years old and I still get excited when I return from work and see it parked in my garage. Unfortunately, I've never shaken the parking paranoia...otherwise I'd be driving her to work every day!

Congrats! I remember that first day of ownership feeling so well (especially because my NSX still feels new to me)!

Are door dings harder to repair on the NSX because of the aluminum body?

Yes, and from what I have read in these forums, the places that are qualified/certified to do body work on these aluminum bodys and skins are few and far between.

Now I'm curious... Anyone out there have any recent price quotes for proper door ding repairs that they've had fixed? [edit] Maybe this question would be better suited to be asked in a different forum... sorry[end edit]

Congratulations:D I bout mine back in september and i still remember the drive home:D . I too have not gotten over the parking paranoia. Everytime i take out my car, I still get excited the first few minutes and my hands start to get clamy:D
enjoy~!!

after someone nailed my 1/4 I decided to never park anywhere near another car and invested in a 2 way alarm system (not yet installed). when the pre-warning goes off (not trigger) my lcd remote should tell me.

I know that obviously everyone here is very guarded about taking pristine care of their cars, but one of the NSX's biggest points is that it's an exotic that can be a "daily driver" of sorts. So, what's the use in having a "daily driver" if you can't even park it next to other cars.

Yes, its a great daily DRIVER. Nobody ever said anything about parking or leaving it anywhere. :p

Sorry... I couldn't resist. ;)

Congratulations on your purchase.

Most cars are used in order to travel from A to B. Most NSX owners use their cars to travel from A to A!

Do what Ferrari owners do - always straddle two parking spaces!!

This assumes that you can't park somewhere secure when you go out - in which case take a beater instead.

I would not suggest taking two parking spaces because you feel thatyour car is worthy of such. There is a good chance that someone may decide to show you how special your car is be damaging it! :(

A much better idea! :D

Alot of people say don't park next to minivans. Actually, unless the minivan has a passenger, you are better off parking next to a minivan. The sliding doors on most minivans reduce the likelyhood of door dinks(as compared to kids coming out of sedans).

I had a ding repaired in my door (paintless dent removal) . The bill was $75 if I remember correctly. I believe the bill will mostly depend on whether they have to take the door panel off. In my case they did not as the ding was located right next to the front fender so I do not think they needed to remove anything to do this. I had this service done at the Acura dealer (Goodson) but I believe they contract the work out to specialists.
