OK, here's my proposal. I have a 97YellowT with Black interior. I WANT TAN INTERIOR! Anyone that got the tan interior and wanted black or don't like your color combo, here's your second chance. My car has 11k on the odometer and is interior is absolutely perfect (the rest too) and I would expect your's to be the same. I know this is an odd request, but almost all yellow T's came with black interior and I wanted tan. I am in Camarillo(about 1 hour North of Los Angeles) and we could meet or schedule something to make the switch(dealer or residence) If this is something that you would be interested in, post, email or call John @ 805-650-0000 if you'd like to entertain this request. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this subject? Would you do this if you had the opportunity? Selling a car that has tan interior? Help!

Hey John,

For some reason, I don't find the yellow and tan combo appealing. Spa yellow is probably my favorite color on the NSX, but, to me, only the black interior works well with it. But in all fairness, I haven't seen the combo in person...only in pics of those 1:18 scale die-cast models.

Of course, what do I know? I had to have a red/black car though everyone else here seems to prefer the red/tan combo

Hi John,

I don't think it's an unreasonable pursuit. Everyone has his own opinion on which color combination is most pleasing. Some people got their second choice interior color when buying their cars, for various reasons. All you need to find is one person who has tan but really wanted black, and you can swap.

I'm not sure how difficult the swap is. Some pieces would be fairly easy to change out, I would think. I would guess that the carpet would be the toughest part, but since I've never done it, I really don't know.

You might try posting to the NSXCA Southwest e-mail list as an additional means of trying to locate someone who might be interested.

Good luck...

I'd actually consider doing the same thing, so let me know how the swap goes Anytime....possibly a quick writeup for the FAQ would be AMAZING!

Hi John,
I think the tan interior with your yellow exterior will look great! I believe, though, that the black interior was the only choice you had with yellow on any year NSX. I have silver and I wish the camel interior was offered but it only comes in black also. Acura should offer the camel interior for all of their exterior colors. I hazard to think how much Acura would charge to completely change your interior to camel with all new seats and carpeting. Sorry I can't help you but good luck in your quest.

I believe, though, that the black interior was the only choice you had with yellow on any year NSX.

That's the only combination shown on Acura's marketing materials and color charts. However, according to the sales numbers shown in the FAQ, a handful of yellow NSX's with tan interior left the factory bound for the States.

If you do it, please do a write-up w/ pictures and I'll post it on the website because I know quite a few people are interested in doing the same thing.

I think the hardest parts of the swap will be the carpet and the pieces on either side of the center of the dash.

All the rest is pretty easy I think.

Don't forget the headliner and door panel bottoms.

Is the headliner black on the cars with black interior? Or is it the same neutral color on all cars?

Also don't forget the panel on the rear of the interior, behind the seats. The one that's tan on the cars with tan interior, even though it's black on the cars with ivory interior.

I've seen a yellow with tan interior getting serviced at Niello Acura in Sacramento.

Remember, John doesn't have to swap interiors with another yellow car. All he has to do is find someone with a tan interior (and ANY exterior color) who wants to swap.

Wouldn't he need to find someone with a tan interior and a targa top? I'm not sure how many differences there are between the two, but I figured a targa would have to swap with a targa. Just my .02.

I think the only difference in the targa top would be if the headliner is color-matched to the interior. And I'm not sure that it is (hence my previous question).

You will need:
seats, console base, carpet, carpeted fuse box cover w/ latch, plastic trim that runs along the edge of the carpet by the sill plates, those wide plastic/vinyl rectangles that house the wiring located right next to the seats along the door sills, lower door panels, a-pillar trim, 3 panels behind seats and top trim piece, headliner, all 3 visors, dome light bezel, trunk release button w/ bezel, fuel door release lever, plastic vents that are mounted high on the inside of the footwells, hood release lever and bezel and floor mats. And you will need to swap from a 'T' because of the headliner and dome light base pieces.

To complete this swap you will need to exchange dashboards too. The lower part is colored to match the interior and is not seperately removeable. You could leave this piece in place on both cars; the new tan car will simply be black here but on the new black car will need to dye this area so it does not stand out.

Hey I would be willing to swap my interior with you. I know a great interior shop called Stichcraft. I am in the Orange Country area, and would split the cost of the installation with you. Let me know if you are interested. Email me at [email protected]

Cyan,
Sorry, but THAT car was totaled! I have replaced it with a 2000 Yellow/black, but now I have the perforated leather and don't see myself changing it in the near future.
John

1991-94 have dark grey pillar and roof trim. Later cars have black pillar and roof trim. I believe all cars have black bulkhead trim.

There are a few spa yellows running around with tan from the factory, looks ok to me.

Chris,

By "bulkhead trim", are you referring to the trim panel on the rear wall of the interior compartment, behind the seats and below the window to the engine compartment? If so, that panel is black on all '91-93 cars. Beginning in '94, that panel is color matched to the interior - tan on the cars with tan interior, black for black interior cars. And yes, for '02, the panel is color matched to the interior if it's blue, orange, white, etc.
