I put in a K&N filter in my stock box about a 1000 miles ago. I decided I didn't like the sound that much and opened it up to put back the stock filter this morning. The accordian rubber airflow tube on the engine side had a lot of white gummy residue in the folds of the tube.
Is this common to he K&N? Did some of this stuff get inside the engine? I just have not seen this before and I want to make sure there isn't any harm to my baby.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

This white stuff is used by Honda and many other manufacturers. It is designed to keep the rubber soft and supple and keeps the effects of the heat from drying out the rubber. That is what was explained to me by a factory rep once, though neither he nor anyone else is able to tell me how it works.
Any CE's out there??

Cheers,
Mark

By the way, during our Buckeye NSX Dyno Day, we measured one car with the replacement K&N filter and then replaced the filter with a stock unit in the same car. The stock filter had 1-2 more Horsepower than the K&N (based on two runs each). Due to the uncertainty of the measurement, they are about the same.
