Intake modification

Excuse me for my ignorance, I'm fairly new...but Is their anything wrong with putting the airfilter on the driver side scoop exposed to the elements? I noticed that all the intake systems are in the engine bay... just wondering.

I have my intake system set up where the filter is in the side scoop and their is a chrome pipe that connects to the engine inside the bay....

I have mine in the scoop as well. I think it does get a little dirtier there especially if you drive in the Rain.

I have a K & N so I clean it regularly.

Mine was modified by Hennessey Motorsports to take cold air from the driver's side "scoop" through (what looks like) a K&N filter.

Am I missing something? Isn't this the design of the AIS? The AIS basically fits directly behind the side scoop...as far as being exposed to the elements there's a small drain hole in the back to alow incidental water to drain.
