recommendation about whether I should do it myself or have it done at a muffler place. I do have the tools and can raise the car easily in my well equipped garage.

I tried to find but cannot locate info on the torque needed for the bolts. Also, for those who have done it themselves, were you to do it again would you do it or would you have it done at the muffler shop?

TIA for any advice guys!:)

As luck would have it, I just installed my lightweight exhaust last weekend. You can easily do it yourself. However, on my '01, I had to use the comptech adapter pipes. It seemed like the lower pipe was a bit too long, and I had to spend quite a bit of time trying to split the difference between the spring play in the cats and the rubber mounts. Anyway, with a little patience, it went fine, and I really like the sound. I ran it using some test pipes in place of the cats, and it sounded very cheap and harsh. However, with the cats back in place, I love it. Hope this helps.

It is simple to do. It will take about 30 min to an hour depending on how hard it is to get your old bolts off.

hi liftcontrol,

this is Rick, with the red nsx. we met during the drive to galveston a while back. how r u? what made you decide on the Taitec? did u look at any other exhaut? I am still exhaust searching...

Easy DIY project but I checked around before I replaced my exhaust and my local muffler shop did it for 45.00, not really worth the trouble to do it yourself for tha price.

Good luck and enjoy the music

Thanks guys.

Mine is a 94 and I hope I would not have the adapter pipes. I am glad you like the end result.

NetViper, would you have any suggestion on taking off the bolts relatively easily? Can I reuse the bolts (if I don't break them while taking off) or is it better to get new ones?

Wheelman, good to hear from you. That was a nice get together and ride we had, I hope we do that again soon. The weather in Houston is wonderful in fall and winter. I decided on the Taitec after due research and reading 'prime threads about the after market exhausts. My primary concern was that it should be significantly lighter than the 44lbs that the OEM weighs. I also wanted a quality product that was well made and I have not heard any negatives in that regard. Also, from what I can gather, the exhaust sounds great and with the cats on is not too loud. I use the car on weekends anyway and that should not be too bad. If I gain a couple of extra horsepower in the process that would be just a bonus. Lastly the price seems right, considering it is made in Japan and seems to be a quality product very popular amongst the NSX owners there.

MiamiNeSex, I might just take your advice once I actually get down to it. Nothing like a shop do it for you for a few bucks. I'll see.

Does anyone know the torque needed on the bolts when tightening. Thanks again.

;)

Spray them down with some liquid wrench first and you should be OK. I ended up breaking 2 bolts off cause they just would NOT come off. I just replaced them and voila! .. I reused the old bolts.

It really is a simple process. I had a friend help me out. It would be a lot harder alone.

If i could have got it done for 45 bucks, I probably would have just done that -- but my friend wanted to help and i wanted the experience.
