Installing Hatch Struts Question

I am installing hatch struts that I ordered directly from Acura. I there anything you need to do to the strut prior to installing or do they go straight out of the bag and into the car. The reason I ask is they seem impossible to compress with just your hands when I took them out of the bag. Maybe they are supposed to be that way and the wieght ratio of the hatch will be enough to compress them when installed. Anyone had any issues when installing new struts (not refurbished), from a search of the threads I couldn't find any.

I was thinking about buying new ones as well. I wondered if there is any difference in the longevity of the new struts from Acura, and the rebuilds by Frank Irvine.

I've gone both routes. The first time Through Frank. The shafts on the old struts that I sent Frank were apparently bent or unsatisfactory so they had to be rebuilt... ended up costing as much as new ones from Dali. So when I needed new ones for the '92 (2 weeks ago) I just bought new ones from Dali - I like that they LOOK new too
Mark at Dali is one cool guy to deal with too
...Frank is very nice as well.
concerning longevity - I would guess that Franks last longer because they come back much stronger than new oem struts.

If you're installing new struts for the trunk, order the ball studs as well because it's damn near impossible to get the old struts off the studs once pressed on.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
