Don't know the stock size, but why use anything larger than required to get the job done with an appropriate duty cycle. I suspect it's about more precise control than with an unnecessarily large one at an even lower usage. Honda wasn't worrying about anticipating mods, as is evident in so many "right sized" areas of the car. They were only interested in building something that worked right out of the box. A good example is using an open deck block. I'm sure that to do otherwise would have seemed like a compromise to them, but it certainly would have been nice when adding a turbo or SC.
