Since you sound like you are in the exact same position as I was last year, here's a little bit of advice... the best things you can do in your search are:
Wait.
Save.
Do your research and trust the advice of the members on this forum.
Don't settle - don't pick up a $20,000.00 NSX. At $20k you will have to spend easily $10k to get it to a remotely usable state, and it will likely be titled from what I've seen. Don't even aim for a $30,000.00 NSX if you can swing it. Thankfully these cars don't seem to be depreciating much so while it's not an investment, you don't have to worry about it shedding value like a 2000+ porsche or Z06 will. Save and get one that's been loved and cared for, and relax some of your requirements like color etc. These are EXTREMELY rare cars relative to stuff like Porsches, and unfortunately since it's a "Honda" I found in my search that a lot of owners have treated them like an Accord and expected them to run forever with little maintenance.
I had a number of cars inspected in the USA and even drove down to Ohio, money order at the read, to inspect one myself and buy it but it turned out to be a dog and the owner didn't even know half of what was wrong with it. These are tough, reliable cars if cared for, but do your research and try to make sure you know more than the seller. A lot of owners are 'rich guys' who don't know jack about their car and just wanted a showpiece, so they ended up unknowingly buying a piece of crap and expect it to sell like it isn't. Also be aware a LOT of these cars have 'histories' - I looked at so many with sketchy pasts in Canada - one had even been stolen, had its ODO rolled back 40,000km, and was on its way to Libya before being recovered by the RCMP. This was for sale at a dealer who had no idea really about the past. Without members on this forum I would never have known and may have bought it.
I wound up grabbing a mid-mileage Canadian '92 in red from a Toronto dealer that had picked it up from a forum member here. I got it for what I consider to be a fair price and was thrilled, but I had to relax my expectations on some things like interior color (ivory...).
Once you get one, and go for that first spirited drive all the frustration of waiting and saving will be worth it!
Unfortunately you've started looking at the worst possible time - right before spring the NSX (and other sportscar) market dries up. Prices go up, selection goes down, so an already rare car gets even rarer in the market. If I was you, I'd make passionate plea to members here to see if anyone is considering selling and if you can twist their arm prior to spring. But don't hold your breath (unless you have a 996 Pcar up your sleeves it seems haha).
Best of luck
