It's under the intake manifold cover:

I removed mine and cleaned it the other day. It seemed pretty dirty. Probably good idea to clean periodically if you run Uni or KnN oil charged air filters...

#8 is the EGR ports back into the intake.

It definitely has an effect on emissions. It only works at part throttle, and has no affect on full throttle though so it is not a real performance hinderer. Some people block off the EGR valve and weld in the IM ports, but only if you have a standalone EMS.

There has been quite a bit of (technical) discussion here about the EGR in the past. Personally, I would leave it intact.

Thanks.

I'm not going to modify it, I was wondering if I should clean that as well as the EGR valve (which apparently is separate away from the intake manifold/engine).

I was reading this thread and want to clean my IAT 1991 with 130K miles. What type of screws are holding it? They look like Phillips but they are now nor Torx, star, allen or???

It’s the new JIS (which follows ISO unlike the old JIS) spec and not the Phillips.
Strictly speaking, each Japanese car manufactures have their own spec based on JASO (Japan Automotive Standard Organisation) so it should be described as Honda spec but it’s safe to say it follows the new JIS – ISO spec.

So, please use No.2 JIS bit and not the PH2 or PZ2 one.

Being manufactured in Japan, I think almost all of the screws on our NSX are JIS spec.

I imagine the IAT sensor gets gunky from the PCV recirculating through the TB/intake manifold over a period of time. I suspect most older NSX's will have this build up. If you've ever ran a scope down the TB you'd be surprised at the build up from the PCV valve.
