OK. It's partly my fault because I use my NSX as a DD and rely on parking far out, valet, "in sight".......whenever I am not actually driving it. But this is the 2nd NSX that I have owned that someone has tried to break into (unsuccessfully) and I am SICK of it. Anyone else out there having this problem? They never get in but always manage to damage the rear moulding and it's both expensive and a pain in the butt having to deal with the insurance company and repair shops. :mad:IMG_5676.jpg

I've only owned mine since June so I can't say I've had that problem. I also live in an area where crime is pretty low. And save for running into the grocery store quickly, or the hardware store I rarely leave my car unattended for more than a few minutes. I know that's all it takes - now if I was living back in Seattle again, it'd never leave my sight unless in my garage.

Hopefully this will be the last of it for you! Thieves suck and everyone should be castrated, without painkillers, using a gut hook from a hunting knife.

Besides the torn molding, what makes you think someone tried to break in? That looks like damage from the window pushing too hard against the old rubber molding. It is a common NSX problem.

I don't have a crystal ball but it looks like you can clearly see the "edge" of the window as shown by the indentation is not where the "puncture" and tear occurred so I don't think the window did it.

I am sure if they were tring to break in they would have used a screwdriver and try and pry the window out and would have left screwdriver indent on the paint
I added red arrows were the paint would have been scraped and dented the very very very thin alum.
the red arrows are the direction they would have put the screwdriver to pry

I think it may be something else.

I think the locking pins were open on the targa and the top was put on and when it rested down it ripped the rubber.

it looks exactly were the pins would come down and rip it

but who knows maybe someone wanted to get in I have no crystal ball  there is a special place in hell for these guys

If that is all the evidence you have of an attempted break-in, then it is not convincing.

This is where mine tore as well. No break-in attempt.

looks like we broke the case. how did your rip? cuz it looks like in the same spot as the OP. and consistant with honda ripping there.

but if... it was a break in, then his rip would be covered by his insurance, and thus he wouldnt have to pay the 1800 for a new rubber seal like everyone else that has to since its a common issue with targas, LOL

anyone smell something???

Not exactly sure, but my guess is that the targa top wasn't seated properly, causing the weatherstripping to bunch up underneath. Then when I raised the window, it caught the edge of the weatherstripping and tore it. I am now careful to doublecheck the weatherstripping whenever I install the targa top.

Edit:
Here, you can kind of see how the corner of the window can "catch" the weatherstripping, especially if it is out or alignment due to the targa top, or any other reason.

I dont think this is a break in also. Ever think about getting a sweet car alarm? It will help you relax when you leave her somewhere for a long time. Also help you sleep easy at night.

Mine was ripped in the exact spot. I realized it was due to the window alignment. I fixed it and now open the door to roll up the window. I'm not sure how to re-align the window so it doesn't dig into the seal but still seals at the top.

The car has the factory alarm AND an aftermarket Viper alarm.

I'm the only one who takes the top on/off and I've never seen a reason to move the lever twice so locking pins would NOT be out when roof is put back in place.

I don't have a crystal ball either

Can't say whether it was a break in attempt or old rubber...

Looks kinda drastic to be from a window mis-alignment or the top somehow interfering

Either way, get some shin-etsu on your seals guys

Your tear DOES look a lot like mine and it does make me wonder................ When the new moulding goes in I am planning on taking it to Acura and having them do an alignment "leak" check

Exact same spot where mine was ripped, luckily with some care, i superglue'd it back in place. Been over a year & it's still holding up.
Seems to be a problem area, i suspect rolling windows up & down over time took a toll on it & eventually just breaks off.
