Does anyone have this problem? I have a '91 NSX and I think my ABS Fails on me at times. When I drive and I brake at a light a little hard, while I'm breaking if I hit a slight bump of something the ABS gives out and I have to re-apply the breaks again to reactivate the ABS. Also at times when I really need to hit the breaks it Fails as well. When it fails it seems like the breaks release and it makes like a vibrating noise. That is when I have to release and apply the brakes again. Please help. I am scared to apply the breaks when there are uneven pavements, the fear of the breaks failing and me slamming into someone. So Please any help will be great.

YellowNSX,

I am not sure you really have a problem. The function of the ABS is to do exactly as you describe, to release braking pressure if is senses a wheel locking. You will get a pulse/kickback in the pedal and it is normal. However you should not have to reapply the brake, just hold it. Also, uneven pavement can lead to less tire contact patch on the road, which could cause a lockup of a given wheel, which would cause the ABS to engage.

I have a few questions:

1. Does your ABS light come on indicating a failure?

2. Tell me what brake pads you have.

3. When was the last time you had the system bled, both the ABS and the full system?

Hey Larry... The last time I had the abs bleed was probably in December when I had honda put it in. Well I understand how ABS works but its nothing like the ABS pumping the brakes. When the ABS does that you don't feel it release and re-apply the brakes. The ABS applies it smoothly. But in my situation when I apply on the brakes, it seems like the brakes release and causes a vibrating sound in the brake system and I have to re-apply on the brakes again to stop. I seems like the slight bump on the road causes a failure in the ABS. It doesn't have to do with anything about the traction. Just the brakes. I really don't know if the ABS light comes on so I'm not really sure about that. Thanks for the help.

yellownsx,

When you get a chance private me with the history of the brakes. Since you mentioned an ABS replacement, I would like to understand to history, to see if I can help.
