Well, on Valentine's day my wife told me that we are now expecting a new baby. So, I am contemplating selling the NSX. My question is do you think I should just part it out and sell it relatively stock? Or try to sell it whole as is right now?

Here is the info on the car:
91 red/black with black and tan interior
109,000 miles on it
Comptech Autorotor SC running stock boost
GT-ONE v5.1 Exhaust
Dali Test Pipes
Cantrell Headers
Stock springs sitting on Bilstein shocks set on lower perch
Cantrell AIS with UniFilter
SOS Big Bore Throttle Body
Dali Window fixit thingys
17x8 and 18x9.5 Enkei RPF1s wrapped in Toyo T1-R tire (a lot of tread left)
Pioneer MP3/CD single din CD player
Polk Audio 6.5" speakers wired to an MTX audio amp

The exterior is about a 7.5 out of 10, with the interior being about 7 out of 10. The seats are in excellent shape with no bolster wear. But the carpet needs to be replaced, as do the garnish pads and cowl trim. Other than that she is in perfect running order, as tested by Barn Man himself. Barney also did all of the maintenance and installation of the aftermarket go-fast components.

If I sold the car as is, I would need to get around $37,500.00.
If I sold the CTSC, exhaust, header, and wheels separate, then I would probably ask around $26,000.00.

Let me know what you guys think would be the best route.
Thanks,
Nathan

Yes, Congrats!

If you have decent insurance, kids are not all that expensive...until they are about five or so.

Then watch out brother.

I found that time suckage was worse than expenses with both my kids. Lots of hobby and sports gear gathered dust for a spell.

congrats as well! I'd remove the dali window fix it thingies as they could be sold for $4 to $6 depending on the condition, when they were put in and the approximate number of times the window has been rolled up and down. being serious you gotta sell the parts seperate! keeping nice wheels on could net you bids though.

I think you are better off parting it out.
You will recover more money parting out your NSX if you can remove most of the parts yourself.

Rough estimate

Comptech Autorotor $6000 to $7000
GT-ONE v5.1 Exhaust $1500 to $2000
Dali Test Pipes $100 to $200
Cantrell Headers $700 to $1000
Stock springs sitting on Bilstein shocks set on lower perch (leave on the Car)
Cantrell AIS with UniFilter $100 to $150
SOS Big Bore Throttle Body $150 to $200
Dali Window fixit thingys (leave on the Car)
17x8 and 18x9.5 Enkei RPF1s $1000 to $1500
Pioneer CD player (leave on the Car)
Polk Audio 6.5" speakers W/ MTX audio amp (leave on the Car)

low end $9,400.00 + $26,000 = $35,400.00

high end $11,950.00 + $26,000 = $37,950.00

You should be able to get with in the range -/+$2000.

IMO

Thanks for the congrats guys. As you can imagine I am scared $hitless, but excited.

I think you are right Chris....parting it out is probably the way to go. I am sure that I could dump the CTSC, exhaust, headers, and test pipes really easy. The rest of the stuff, minus the wheels, I would just leave on the car.

And I can get all of the stuff removed for virutally nothing.

Later,
Nathan

congrats!!!

If you're able, I wouldn't sell it. It will probably be very difficult to get any two seater with kids in tow (although I got my s2000 when my daughter was 10 months and then my NSX 2 years later when my son was 2 months)

I would see if you can swing it and not make any preemptive decisions.

+1

And grats BTW. Like you said yourself, scared but excited. All good just don't jump to any conclusions based on being scared and excited.

Honestly theres nothing to be scared of. Everything will come natural when the time comes. When the nurse puts him/her in your arms for the very 1st time, you will be overwhelmed with joy.............................unless it looks like you brother.

You had better be pretty handy to remove the CTSC and headers... That is at least 20 hours of work for a lamen...

Maybe you can look for a creative solution?

You can sell many of the go fast parts and take the money and 1) buy a lift for your nearly stock NSX and 2) buy a nice safe family sedan with a few miles on the clock. A used Taurus is cheap, rides well, is low maintenance, and has had a 5 star crash test rating for a while.

I think there would be times you would miss the boost but you might be surprised to "rediscover" how well balanced and how much fun the NSX was right out of the box.

I didn't buy all the go fast parts and went this route and have 3 kids now AND my sanity (well most of the time).

:)

Head over to the SE section and sign up for the dragon run. That will cure this silly notion of selling your nsx.

Seriously though, your wife has a car right? I bought my NSX when my son was 5 months. There has never been a reason to need three seats unless the family truckster is also available.

But if you do part it out, I got dibs on the exhaust.

Many feel (at this time) the NSX will not depreciate much over the next few years. If you part it out and get $25000 for the base car you may regret it in the near future. It may be bery difficult to find a car of this caliber for the same price ($25000) in a few years. If the automakers end the hp race as some analysts anticipate, the NSX will be worth its weight in gold very soon.

I wouldn't sell it.

A year after my daughter was born, I sold my sportbike because it became extremely inconvenient having to constant criss cross town to swap from bike to car because I had to go pick up my daughter from her mom's. Months later, I bought the perfect family car, my NSX. That's because my family consists of and my daughter.

Anyhow, being a dad can be really stressful. Being a full time 26 year old single dad and full time college student kicks my ass. If it weren't for my car, I don't know what I'd do to unwind sometimes..... It's my lifesaver, it's my sanity.

I'm with Matteni on this one! Provided you have a garage that is tall enough, why not trade all those goodies in on a lift and get a good reliable beater. I was in a similar boat - got married and had an instant 4-year old daughter. Sold my RX-7 convertible (regreted it) and searched for convertible 2-seaters ever since to "fill the void". (The NSX was the ultimate solution:smile: )

Of course, you can always come back to the NSX later in life - but consider the bird in hand!

Congrats on the news BTW! Wish you and your wife all the best.

Young/full time single dad/college student. I'd say your plates pretty full. I commend you on having your daughter.

Nathan,

I'm with Koolaid, don't sell the car. I have raised 2 kids and always had a sports car before they were born and especially after. It keeps your sanity, and there will be times when your sanity will be tested and you will need an escape capsule. I don't think I could have made it without a sports car oasis. Unless you have other outlets or escapes, don't sell it. The regrets are not worth it later on. Unless it is a critical financial hardship to keep the NSX, don't do it. As it was said earlier, kids are not that expensive initially, so hang in there.

Best of luck in whichever decision you make, and congratulations! Part out the car if you can do the work and don't value your time as much as the money. Could be heartbreaking to do it though.

Best wishes,

Tytus

Congradulations, but really man. keep it because you will regret it, after things settle down and you realize you coulda kept it, you'll wish you did. I bought mine when my boy was 4 yrs old.

LMAO!!!

Congrats on the soon to be new addition to your family. I remembered when we had our 3rd child, my wife insisted that I sell my immaculate 87 CRX Si and buy a 96 Odyssey. I still have the 96 Odyssey. The 87 CRX Si went to CRX heaven. Sold it to my cousin, and he totaled it when someone drove into his lane and he was forced up an embankment. When the 2 older kids started college (& 2 at home), my wife let me replace my CRX with the NSX. If you have to sell now, I hope you can get back into another NSX in the future. If the wife is not happy, there will be no peace in the home; therefore, keep her happy.

Congratulations on the upcoming child. If you financially don't have to sell it, don't. When I found out my wife was pregnant I actually bought an NSX. I figured better get it while I can:biggrin: Anyway, during the first 3 years it was a blast. My son is 4 now and although I sold my NSX to my brother he still remembers working on the NSX with me and going to car shows. I ended up selling my NSX because my son started preschool which ended up costing about $8K a year and I wasn't sure if I could afford it at that time. Looking back, I should have kept it since I want to buy another one now.

Anyway, if you have to sell for financial reasons by all means, take care of your new upcoming family first. If finances wont be a problem, there is no reason why you need to sell the NSX. My son loved it when I picked him up in the NSX from Preschool. Well, until I sold it that is.

Selling the NSX is silly. it costs a lot of money to buy and sell cars---just the tax alone is 10% on each car, as well as massive depreciation.

You only will only use one family car anyways. It will be full of stuff (more than you can possibly imagine...and you will need it any or all of it at a moments notice) car seat(s) and whatever, so it is darn there impossible to have *two* family cars at the same time.

Every person I know that sold their "sports" (ie single car) regretted it strongly. And it is costly...what kind of car can you purchase that costs less than $26K and won't depreciate?

If you "must" sell it for something with a back seat, then I suggest an STI or something similiar. If it must have 4 doors then at least get something fun to drive.
