I have seen EGR's go bad due to carbon built up inside over age. But not on an NSX.
Me too. The last EGR I cleaned was on my dad's 1984 Lincoln MK VII when I was about 12 years old. It was caked and crusted with hard black carbon and was causing a rough idle, etc. After we cleaned it, the car ran smoothly. This was on a Ford 302 V8 with throttle body fuel injection however, remember those? I don't think this would be an issue with the NSX, which has a much more advanced ECU, port injection and overall design. I say swap in OEM cats if you can and see what happens.
