How much do you need to retire.

this is where I am getting lost. I am 34, what is retirment age? 50? I put in 55.....then what? my plan has always been to save enough cash to live off interest....plus keep my existing house as a rental property. next house i buy is going to screw my plan up, but my wife wants a bigger house.

I am currently retiered. I am doing well according to their model, but I think their model sucks. It doesn't ask how much you currently have for retirement, the amount of return you're receiving, etc., etc.

+1

fairly general and unsophisticated model... but for some, perhaps a starting point for thinking about some of the issues, no?

Good point Hal. Planning for retirement is a complicated matter. I guess it's easy to retire, but difficult to remain retired and maintain a good lifestyle.

It says $784K. I have a long way to go...:frown:

I am 45 and have pretty much succumbed to the notion that I'll have to work 20 more years until my house is paid off. After that I figure I could live on $40K a year until I'm 90. Then I'll have to sell my house and live with my kids after that. I am planning on living to a ripe old age...

4.32 Mill for moi. All i wanted was 300k/yr in passive income. doesn't seem like a lot of base $ to generate that kinda of yearly income... i guess they assume I'm going to spend allthe capital.

realistically i'd probably like a lot more to keep me in the lifestyle, but I recognize the need to slow down at some point.
