How cheap Ferrari owners ship their new F360 Spyder.

you'll see my X going thru McD's all the time, and I even eat in it too!

I have and do sometimes myself. When I take it on out of town trips you kinda have to.
Just a little shocked that someone driving a car that $$ would do it.

MIleage is key on these type of cars, I spoke with an exotic dealer who sells Lambo's and Ferrari's, and said 10K is the magin number for mileage. There is a nice price drop after 10,000 miles for this type of car.

I, too, am a little puzzled as to who'd ship their car like this... maybe they didn't know any better?

When and where??

I was driving up 75 from Cincy up to Superior Acura in Hamilton, OH last week to have the oil changed and happen to look over, like I said had to look twice, actually probably three or four times because I just couldn't believe it... a VW Jeta, Ford F150, few other misc older cars and TWO 959s on an open carrier. At first I thought it was a C4 or something, but I am positive it was two 959s.

I am also suprised that someone would ship a Ferrari that far on an open carrier but shipping might of been included in the deal and the buyer didn't get specific.

I have taken my Carrera GT through Mc D's drive through a couple of times, the only problem is the car sits so low it is hard to reach the window. I don't eat in my car though, well I do grab a couple of fries on the way home. I also don't get a drink, that is too hard to hold while driving.

A Canadian trucker can't pick up a load in the US, they can only drop off.
So the dealer couldnt send a truck to pick it up.
Inclosed car carriers crossing into Canada are rare, its about half the cost to ship it on a open truck as these trucks cross all the time for the big 3.

I suspect "being cheap" has nothing to do with this. The owner probably could not care less how the car was transported as long as it got there. Maybe that Modena is only his daily beater. Not everyone will make such a big deal being casual about their possessions.

Anyone that knows me knows that I am pretty laid back about my cars, but subjecting the car to probable damage and unnecessary repairs just does not register with me when it is avoidable.

All I know is that the truck had Ontario plates, the driver was Canadian, and he said he had picked up all these cars in the states and was headed to Quebec to drop it of, so you figure that one out.

I have a better one than that - I have a close friend who bought a 1936 Hudson Terraplane and hired a Canadian shop (The Guild of Automotive Restorers - pics of the Hudson are at their site) outside Toronto for a total resto plus install a Viper drivetrain in it, etc custom paint at a total driveout cost of $350k. He then bought a new superduty Ford Pickup and a used 36 foot enclosed carhauler trailer, and (doing the driving himself) hauled his mother's 53 Olds up there from Houston to have it restored as well. Half way to Toronto the Olds busted the straps and got loose in the trailer and the Olds banged into the workbench and shelving inside the trailer, damaging both. He then dropped off the Olds, bought new straps at K Mart, and loaded the $350k Terraplane into the same trailer and hauled it back to Houston WITH NO INSURANCE ON THE CAR!!!!! NONE!!!!! He wanted to save the cost of insurance for another month!
Considering the cost of fuel and hotels, food, etc - how lame is that?
This person has millions and yet does that kind of stuff. A prime demonstration of how money has nothing to do with intelligence and common sense.
He has millions yet buys his shoes at PayLess and then complains about how they hurt his feet. I love this guy like a brother, but WOW!

One more demo of lack of brains: I bought a Hummer for an Arab friend in Kuwait and had it shipped over there for him. He wired $40k to my bank and I bought the vehicle and took it to a shipping agent here in Houston to have it sent over via ship. He wanted the cheapest transport available, which was $1,500 on open deck, and would not spend the extra $500 for containerized cargo! Same thing as what you're saying, with the added bonus of salt spray from the ocean for a month.

Hey I'm from Montreal... I wonder who it is being shipped to! If it was only $500 more for closed shipping then I wonder why the owner didn't pay for it. ???
