Okay...so I am on the way from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne to visit my family and put half of my 'mini-fleet' of cars in storage for the winter, when I get a craving for a cheeseburger about halfway home. So somewhere around mile marker 64 on I-69 North I pull off into a truck stop/McDonald's and zip through the drive through window. I see a bunch of semis and an open transport truck with a bunch of pretty crappy cars on it, a boat, a Honda Accord.....AND A FERRARI 360 SPYDER!! WTF?!?!? I quickly get my food (the guy at the McDonald's window says I just missed seeing a white Ford GT with blue stripes come through the drive-up as well) and I zip around to the 'SEMI TRUCK ONLY' marked parking lot to check this out for myself. Sure enough, someone bought this Ferrari in Texas (it still has the Texas new car tags on it) and is shipping it all the way to Montreal, Quebec, Canada via an OPEN CARRIER!! Considering this is winter, the trip is several thousand miles, and the car is bound to get dirty and or knicked somewhere along the way, I was mystified. Evidently so was the truck driver who I chatted with. He said the guy was paying about $1,800 to have the car transported via open carrier, and it would have only cost an extra $500 to get an ENCLOSED transporter. I have no clue why someone would spend $250,000 on a car and then send it that far on an open trailer, UNDER A BOAT, and exposed to all sorts of possible damage. You judge for youself. I hope for the best for this poor car, but will never understand the 'logic' of the lucky new owner. :frown:

actually i was curious about the price variations between F360's
i've seen anything from $140k - $250k in various ads and such
whats up with that?

maybe the guy who set the shipping up is actually sending his newly ex-wife's ferarri to her new home and is hoping it gets hit by a chemical spill

Uh.. the 360 costs 155 000 new?

I can remember a post on nsxprime with Zondas and Lambos on a open trailer?

Uh.. the 360 sells way above MSRP, even used ones.

Ferrari 360 $150,000

Taxes $15,000

Annual insurance cost $3,000

Watching new owner wobble, faded and fall unconscious after seeing his Ferrari delivered on an open trailer

PICELESS!

On the open market a new 360 went for, and still goes for, well over sticker. The pics of the Zondas and Lambos probably was not headed over 3,000 miles through the heart of a Canadian winter when they were likely to get messed up either.

He is from Quebec what do you expect? lol

Base sitcker on my old black 2000 360 coupe was
141,525.00
4,500.00 Gas tax
623.00 Red brakes
759.00 Battery charger
1,977.00 Daytona seats
1,891.00 electronic seats
1,003.00 scuderia shields
358.00 upholstered top
1,752.00 leather rear shelf
154,738.00 sub total
1,350.00 destination charge
156,088.00 total

9365.28 sales tax
5904.00 lux tax
19.00 title

$171,376.68 grand total
I sold it 1 year later for $195,000.00
Spiders and cost 48k more.

You can buy a used 360 now for around $120k

360 Spiders don't go for 250K anymore, check on ebay you can buy a dozen for under 200K and many for well under that amount.

The 430 Spider is out now and it is making the 360 Spider drop, in a few months you will be able to find many for 150K or less. They were selling for substantially over sticker for quite a while and have held their value very well but if you put very many miles on them they drop like a rock.

I doubt you'll see any US 360 Spiders under 150k for at least a year.

430 Spiders are over 300k!

I didn't say only U.S. cars, there is a 360 Spider with a buy it now under 150K right now, it the add it says he just paid over 40K for the major service!

If the guy was having the car shipped to Canada, he would of had no reason to buy a U.S. car and pay a premium.

I would also wager that high mileage (over 30K) U.S. 360's will sell for well under 150K in less than a year.

There's a '99 with 26,000 miles on e-bay for a "buy it now" at $108,000.

Hm interesting. I see used 360 for 80 000€ here.. maybe that one is scam.. but there are 20 other between 80 000 and 95 000€. *shrug*

Okay, even if the price of the car is off by a bit for current market value, it is still an expensive car to send that far on the back of an open transport this time of year.

Canada won't allow a Euro cars to be brought in the country from the US, they will allow it to come in if it has a Euro title and is shipped from Europe.
The Ferrari dealer in Quebec (FoQ) has been buying 360s and converting them to Canadian spec, then selling them at a discount. 360 spiders go for 240k up here, FoQ is in trouble for not doing the proper mods to make them legal, a few cars have been confiscated buy the government.
The Canadian market for exotics is a funny one, a used 86 to 91 Testerrosa sells for 100k +. In the US they sell for around 40 to 75k.

I would never buy a car from Ebay. and Autotrader has 360's listed at or over $200k.

I was driving up the highway next to a car carier and had to look twice.... two Porsche 959s. One silver and one black. They were on there with a bunch of misc junk cars.

you'll see my X going thru McD's all the time, and I even eat in it too!

I got these cheeseburgers man!

I suspect "being cheap" has nothing to do with this. The owner probably could not care less how the car was transported as long as it got there. Maybe that Modena is only his daily beater. Not everyone will make such a big deal being casual about their possessions.
