Hoosier track tire compounds?

Road Atlanta is audible from here...
I looked through the Hoosier site and did not see an explaination of the difference in compounds between the RS303 and AS303. Can they be mixed front to rear?

My understanding is that the A3S03 is really intended for autocross, and R3S03 is for road racing. So A3S03 gives quick warmup and is designed for grip at relatively low speeds, the R3S03 requires some warmup but better stands up to the extreme heat of high-speed road racing.

I would stick to the R3S03 (or, better yet, the R3S04) for road racing.

I was afraid of that... I was hoping to take advantage of Hoosier's clearance on those models, but they don't have my sizes in one compound. The current inventory has my fronts in A only and the rears in R only...

...and yes, Ken is correct - the "A" model is Autocross

even YOU would burn those up in one day :p

Yes but with auto-x hoosiers Mark and Maria will be fastest on the first and second warm up laps!:D

If you haven't seen the R3S04 yet, check out the tread pattern

mmm should get 15-20,000 meters:eek: out of a set!

The SO4 will last longer than SO3. And it is also more durable. Mainly because of the use of steel belts and new compound. The downside is it is heavier.

FWIW, I have a few friends, very fast friends, who ran the Autocross compound on track events and time trials. They said it grips fine and they don't have to warm it up. But it only last a weekend.

Man, you snooze, you lose...I waited a couple days to get some S03's and now they're all gone (at least at the Tire Rack). I guess I should have figured that they'd go quick at 40-50% off. Anybody know of any other secret stashes of the S03's being cleared out?

OK, its official. Ken wins the coolest smiley of the day award!

Hoosier makes a unique compound for Grand- Am Cup cars, they have the RS0303 on them, but Hoosier used our series to perfect a new compound. The special tires have “GAC” molded into them (Not stamped). Just a hunch, but one might assume that this is the new 04 compound. They wear great and have good grip. Another interesting note is that Hoosier claims they get zero benefit from heat cycling them. These tires are available in any quantity you may need, but GAC competitors are instructed not to sell them. With some creativity one might find a way to get their hands on some. Also relevant-

We bought every last R3S03 hoosier had left I'm pretty sure. People knew they were coming to us and were ready and waiting when they got here. Some of the sizes had pretty large quantities, but they all went as soon as they got here. I was in the office at 7:00 am the morning they came in, by lunchtime we were pretty much cleaned out.......it was nuts!

Hey Aaron - when did you get the s2000

I bought it about 10 days ago, I finally passed the 600 mile mark so I can get into the VTEC.... that was the longest week ever shifting @ 4000 RPM's :) I have always loved convertible cars.
H&R coil overs just came in for it, and it should have enough break in miles to take it to the track by next week :D
