Hello, it's been along time since I visited this amazing site. I am shopping for a new set of tires (1996 NSX Stock) 245-40-R17 rear & 215-45-R16 front. My tire shop has only found two manufacturers, B.F. Goodrich and Falken that have a matched set of the same model. Are you guys mixing up the model within a manufacture or getting just a slightly different size front tire? I am in my mid 70's, this my second NSX, will be selling soon as I'm stiffing up a bit. Owned one of these great cars since late 1999. Thank you very much for your consideration and support.

Hey Chazuno,
I replaced the same size tires on my '96 a few months ago and I opted for the Falken RT 660's. The shop had the 245 40/17 rears in stock so I had them installed that day. They ordered the 215 45/16 fronts and 3 days later I went back to get those. So far so good. No issues.

I needed to replace some very old Pilot Sport 4's which are no longer available in size. Got $80 off a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS's at Discount. More money, not as much tread depth, (even though they say they are better rated in water than the Falkens???), and they have impressed so far. Low noise, high grip, and great turn in. Haven't had a chance to push them yet, but very happy so far. With a car like the NSX, you get what you pay for. If your never going to go to track, or do canyon runs, just "cars an coffee" it, they are overkill. But nothing effects a high performance car like tire choice. The only strange thing I've noticed is that strait out of the garage the have a tons of pickup and take a mile or two to clean off. Maybe just my imagination as the Michelin's were such stones by the time I replaced them.

RE71RS is a great track tire. I had a set for track for my now-sold GR Corolla.

Not at all what I’d recommend for street use by a guy in his mid-70’s in Washington state (btw I’m 69).

Part of the description from Tire Rack:

The Potenza RE-71RS is Bridgestone's Extreme Performance Summer tire developed for sports cars, performance sedans and enthusiast drivers who participate in high-performance driving events, track days and endurance-style competition. The Potenza RE-71RS is not intended to be serviced, stored or driven in near-and-below-freezing temperatures.

I’d instead recommend these high-performance all-seasons- great tires.
