Homemade NSX-R engine cover

Hey guys

Thanks for all the compliments (and jokes - hot dog grill!).

I'd be more than happy to help any of you make one, but the thing is shipping.....something of these dimensions would be pretty expensive to ship, by ground or air.

With the money spent on shipping this thing back and forth, it would probably cost as much as buying the carbon kevlar gruppe M one from Dali....which in my opinion is the best lip out there next to the factory NSX-R lid. There was a time when I was pondering getting the gruppe M one from Dali, then painting it flat black, just to get the facotry look.....but then I looked in my pocket where money should have been and found a big hole.

I'll post some more pictures as soon as I dig some up and give you guys a step-by-step walktrhough on making one. It's easy! Just a bit time consuming.

I had no fiberglass experience at all and my friend and I managed.

Anyway, I'll try to get it all posted asap.

We should have a little contest on who can make the best example.......post your pictures!

Peter,
Have decided to go te mesh look. Partially because I already have the mesh. Am not sure about the fiber-part though. What does the underside of your lid look like ?
Could you post a picture of that ?

Great Job Peter. If you are coming to Calgary in the future would love to have a closer look at your craftsmanship. I am looking at changing out my engine cover also but I am not interested in spending big bucks. I would rather spend the money on go fast parts or slow me down quicker parts.

The underside is ugly, really ugly....remember, we're not professionals....just a couple of clowns experimenting with fiberglass, mesh and a dremel.

I'll dig up some pics of the underside and post them tomorrow.

I don't think I'll be coming to Calgary anytime soon. The way I had my engine cover done was about as cheap as one can get......

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your answer. Yesterday, I started doing my own engine lid. This dust from the fiber-reinforced plastic is still itching my fingers (and I only cut out a small test-piece).
So far, I've lined out the hole I want and have cut the mesh accordingly. Unfortunately, the mesh is only 1 meter wide os my edges will be wider than yours.
I am taking pictures throughout the whole process to do a write-up afterwards. Think I'll have the job done somewhere during next week.
