High Lift Cams

I e-mailed TODA Racing about their GT500 NSX engines and this was the reply:

"Thanks for your inquiry. The TODA GT500 engine is $125,000. It's only available within Japan as you will not be able to receive any tech support outside of Japan. It is also mentioned on our web site that TODA race engines will not fit street cars. They are designed for a racing chassis that has different mounting points and the engine sits a lot lower than the factory chassis.

In a few months we'll be offering engine components for the NSX including high compression pistons, cam gears, flywheel, and a high strength timing belt."

I also did hear that the Toda race motors are for full race only, and for that price you could have yourself a JDM NSXR shipped over, buy a bunch of mods, and still have some left over......they are bad ass though...might as well order single hubs and airjacks too!

I hope one day all JDM Honda NSX parts, like the R series valvetrain & cams, will be plentiful here in the US. Or at least a reliable JDM distributor....cross your fingers!

Well if any one knows anything good about this N/A cams issue it would be great to get some more information...Thanks

Happy Racing

In reguards to the AEM EMS computer for the NSX. I have talked to AEM and the reason that they have it available for the NSX is that one of the upper up guys there has one and was tinkering around with it. As of right now they really dont have a good base map for the car. So if you did get the system you would have to map out the entire fuel and ignition mappings yourself. Even with a so-called complete map for a civic i couldnt even get the car to start.

The software is very intense, and difficult to use until you get a week of messing with it under your belt. And this is comming from someone who is fluent in Haltech, Accel Calmap (DFI), Speed Pro (C-Com), Apexi Power FC.

So to sum it up, the CPU is very powerful, and its a great package because it plugs directly in, but the software and base maps are horrible, and technical support is also poor. PLUS side is that the software is constantly being updated, and a free download on the website, and the CPU Flash ROM is constantly being updated, and available free on the website. They also release better base maps on the website every so often.

Just DONT expect it to be plug and play like they say.

The AEM ECU should be out shortly, the upper guy that has the NSX is JC. The unit is not for the weak hearted but, from what we hear it should be a great product! We will keep you updated if you are interested.

Nice FX website, btw.

Also...the AEM ECU...completely replaces the stock ECU? And still controls all vehicle functions (e.g. TCS/ABS, A/C, etc.) + tuning capabilities?

Will AEM be providing base maps which actually work well, or at the very least, are safe to run under all foreseeable street driving conditions?

I just talked to J.P. over at AEM and i asked for a release on the AEM EMS unit for the NSX and he said it would be a while because they are really pushing to release the more common units like the Eclipse unit.

So i wouldnt hold my breath for too long.

And as for a base map? i would wait until they have atleast 3 revisions on it before relying on it to run good. Or just take it to someone with a dyno (with load cell) and a WideBand oxygen meter to manualy populate the fuel map, and fine tune it.

AEM unit completely replaces the factory ECU. Fuctions like ABS, TCS, and A/C are controlled by separate control boxes. Signals required by these units pass through the ECU, however, the nice thing about the AEM unit is that is has wire harness plugs that plug into the unit just as if it was the factory ECU.

HomeDepotNSX,

Thank you for the compliment on the web-site. Hopefully in the next few weeks we will have v2. ready with deeper content.

In regards to the AEM, Chris is correct in its functions. The NSX will hopefully be out in the next 4 months or so. We have the AEM set-up for 2 of our clients. A CRX drag and a twin turbo (3037) Supra. If time permits we will have the results in the next few weeks.
