hesitation & bass drum sound in motor

noticing an intermiten hestiation in the motor in my '91 5spd with 38K miles. acceleration is rough sometimes and at idle i sometimes notice a sound similar to a bass drum coming form the motor.

am i losing a iginition coil?

i just recently had the same problem. when i bought the car (a year ago), i was told the spark plugs were new, and, like a dipstick, i took the guy's word for it.

when my car started acting exactly as you're describing, i yanked the plugs and discovered they were AC-DELCO's!!! so, i went to my favorite race shop and ordered up the platinum NGK plugs per the service manual.

the problem is solved, and i got better response at that! so, i learned a good lesson for $70.

Turned out to be a bad ignition coil. Replaced the coil and all is well.
