I did an inspection on a 1991 NSX, and used the FAQ section on the snap ring issue to se if it was in the range.

This is a 1991 red/black Honda NSX, Europe version, originally sold in Germany.
I found the label, but it had a different format than listed here on Prime: "NSX trensmission in snap ring: J4A4-1003542 --> J4A4-1005978"

Now, the one I found was: BJ4 32107 SLO J403
then some bar codes, and in small writing below that:
BJ4954Z0475

What the hell?? Is this the transmission number or did I locate the label wrong.
Help please! The number was right where the Prime directions told me, a white plastic/paper looking thing fastened to some wires. If this is the wrong location, can anyone post a picture on where to really look?

Thanks

Biter,

I have even seen a different format in the US!! In the US, I consider it "out of range" but remember the TSB is a US service bulletin. I am not sure it is valid RoW.

Sorry I cannot be of more help.

I believe the same transmission number sequence was used worldwide, so that transmissions in that range were originally installed in NSXs for all world markets. And transmissions with a serial number that isn't in that range, or even in that format, are not considered in the snap ring range.

I don't know anything about this particular number.

The secret to finding the transmission number is to look at just exactly the right angle, with sufficient lighting. Hopefully someone can post a photo.

I made a quick picture for you.
It is actually located really deep far, far away........
Mine is quiet visible, but thats because the whole thing was cleaned when my tranny was done.
