Help with pricing this NSX

There is no way I would believe that CARMAX sold a 91 NSX for 10k. In my opinion their prices are always way to high, so 10k...NO WAY. Also, at least in Charlotte, NC they don't put 20yr old cars on their lot...someone is either misinformed or is just lying. I would love to see that sales order.

I have now owned 4 NSX and in my opinion, I've done pretty well on all of them.

If you can get that car for 16k or even a little lower and there's nothing wrong with it...get it, end of story.

I guess places like carmax doesnt get tradeins...

They get it for 9K. Because of its age it was going to be sold to one of the no name lots. However, the mechanics (son) and employees have a right or 1st dibs. They sold it to him for a 1k more than what they get it = $10k

I also find it hard to believe that carmax would sell a '91 for $10K. Call them and tell them that you have '91 (with similar details) you want to sell and see what they will offer you. If they offer you around 10k (or even 8 or 9), then the story is not true. I know of a guy who was trying to sell a '91 that was not in the best of conditions. Carmax offered him $13.5K. You know if they take it in for that, they will have to turn around and sell it for $20K.

No go, they said they have to see the car to gave a price

If you want a cheap one here's one on EBAY:
1991 Silver/black, 129k, VIN:jh4na1155mt002509

I want a red one

That way I can have red, white and blue.

If you somehow pass on the $16k NSX, let me know where it is and I'd take a good look at it. I mean, who wouldn't want a NSX for $16k. As long as it doesn't need a lot of work.

Thanks man, but I think im just gonna keep saving and looking :)

Guys, I'm gonna say it first here - this poster sounds a bit off the mark. This is bs. I don't believe anyone is going out there and finding any NSX that is worth a crap for 16k - if this guy is really looking lets just see what turns up here. I'm kind of thinking this is a waste of time - this sounds like another tire kicker that is ill prepared to buy a good car at a decent price and be able to maintain it. This reminds me of the guys that buy these cars and sell em in less than a year cause there is some big maintenance issue coming up or insurance is due..... who knows.

Anyone talking an NSX for 10k is pulling somebodies chain. I'm not buying any of this. Good luck!

^There was a nice sliver one posted on here for 16.5k but it was an auto.

Why is it so hard to believe? If they offer the buyer $9k for it, which sounds about right for a dealer. Carmax would not sale a 91, they were going to take it to one of the no name lots. But then one of their employees brought it for an extra grand. I saw it in person last sunday, he parked it next to my Supra at work. Tobad I didn't have my cam :(

You may have seen the car in person, but no way I believe the price. Most people with NSXs know the value, if they took it in for 9k the car must have been total junk or a shell.

I did sell my 92 NSX, red/black with 107k miles on it Dec, 09 for $16400, the car was very clean with records the only reason I sold it that cheap was it had salvage history from being stolen 15 yrs ago. No damage but totalled by insurance after being stolen and VIN plates removed.

9k, no way, nuff said.

I'm pretty sure carmax doesn't take in shells.

As it stated before, It could used a paint job but other than that I saw nothing wrong with it.

Cool beans

seeing nothing wrong with itdoesn't mean there isn't a story behind it. the vehicle in question most likely has a salvage history, with an accident that declared the vehicle a total loss. it does not take very much for an nsx to be considered a total loss.

one of the nsxprime members recently had an accident with his 2003 LBBP. slick roads sent him off into the railing. the damage didn't look bad at all. front end was a little bit off, rear quarter was a little banged up. after closer inspection, the frame was bent slightly, and the repair bill as accepted by insurance was over 35K to fix it.

accidents, whether they are reported or not, really diminish the value of a vehicle. from the price breakdown i gave on page 1, i would say a questionable salvage title reduces the value of a car by 5k to 10k, depending on the buyer.

The K24 swap is not a common swap. STMPO i believe is the first one to attempt it, and, theoretically, it will work very well. The parts for the K24 are inexpensive compared to the C30/C32, and replacing a K24 is roughly 1/3 or less than the cost of replacing a C30/C32. You have to consider though, that you will need a turbo on the K24 to make it powerful enough, which would add on a cost of at least 5k for a custom designed turbo kit.

we're not doubting you found an nsx for 16k, and that you know someone who bought one for 13.5k, it is just very unlikely that these were good condition vehicles that have been properly maintained.

common repair items:
clutch job: $1500 for PARTS for 5 speed, a lot more for the 6 speed.
tb/wp: $1500ish.
the nsx eats rear tires in 10-15k miles, fronts double that.
trim pieces and everything cost a lot as aftermarket support is not as available as other hondas, toyotas, etc.

It needed a paint job, but it started up fine.

As it stated before, It could used a paint job but other than that I saw nothing wrong with it.

vh_supra, I'm not sure how many cars you've bought in your life, but "started up fine" is not a criteria for purchase IMO. Does the car have any maintenance records? Has it had a timing belt/water pump replacement? Have the coolant hoses been changed? Do the electronics (AC/radio/TCS/ABS) work? Does it need brakes, fluids, tires? Does it track straight? Does the clutch take up properly?

Answer no to any of these questions and you are in for a pretty serious cash outlay to get things right.

But you seem to be on a quest to purchase the lowest priced NSX available. Good luck.

VH SUPRA, didn't you post this: Are you saying that one with a little more miles or even double the miles is worth at least 16k less??

I'll believe Vh is a serious buyer when I see more evidence. All I can say is read some of the other posts with great care as in putting 10 grand in a car bought for 20k. That's what your in for. Question is can you really afford it. I can't believe I'm still posting to this total bs thread.

I brought a Supra, 4 FD RX-7s, and a Lexus SC300. So a total of 6.

No we didn't talk about what was does, I was kinda busy at work. He just told he that he bought it for $10k and all it needs its lil tlc on the paint.

Another point is that some people do their own work, so there wouldn't really be maintenance records, maybe just part orders.

I'm just saying what I was told. It was a 91, black, 5speed, clean title with 150k on it. Carmax got it for 9k and the work (son) bought it for 10k.

Ok buddy, then why don't you get the heck out of my thread

I bought my NSX race car for $5k and just obtained a sponsorship from BP, including all the oil I can scoop up.

Dude you asked for "Help with pricing this NSX", we have told you over and over again that $16k is a smoking deal for ANY NSX, even a salvage titled beater. At $16k even if you have to dump $5k into it right away it's still a deal. A decent high-mileage NSX in good shape is in the 20s. Go buy it or go away.

Well put!

I found an RX7 shell for 3k, has a couple dings and paint needs a little work but it'll buff out. I also have an LT1 engine from a friend's cousin sister who works at a junkyard and can get it for a 12 pack of Budlight.

Is this a good deal and can you help with the pricing. Also can someone let me borrow a set of rims.

Thanks

First off, I would try to negotiate that price..... 12 pack of Keystone. You can talk up the coating that makes it taste like it's from a glass.

Secondly, I would also try to get someone here on Prime to give you a set of free tires to go along with those borrowed rims.

Dude, why don't you stop instigating...

Already got what I needed from topgunsnsx, broinkrist, & Honcho.

Did you drive both of these cars to the gas station to get gas at the same time?

My friend drove my FD; we were at a meet.

$3k for a FD shell is pretty good. The usually go for about $4.5 to $5k.

I would go with a LSX tho :D

The v8 swap kit is $1500 to $2000

Since you already have the motor thats gonna save you huge chuck of change in the end.

Are you going to do the swap yourself?

It's awesome that you have a sense of humor, I must admit that we get a lot of random questions and one off situations regarding purchasing and so some of us may seem a bit annoyed but we are here to help you out and hopefully you'll be an NSX owner soon.

If I was going to build an NSX from the shell up I would go k24 bottom and k20 head and go with the toda bump kit and rev it to 9200 RPM all NA

Vh-

if you are serious about that car, I strongly suggest you have it examined by a body shop that is experienced with NSX body and frame repair. While it might not save you from buying a flood car, at least you'll know if the frame is bent or cracked. Saving $10k is nice, but it's not worth your life.
